ObjectiveIn this study, we will assess and compare the clinical memory with young epilepticpatients and healthy controls. Discover the features of memory impairment in epilepticpatients. Additionally, we explored the correlation with a variety of clinical factors(suchas: sex, age, age at onset, years with seizures, seizure frequency, seizure duration, education) and memory, to investigate factors affecting memory function in patientswith epilepsy and explore ways to improve memory function or reduce memoryimpairment in epileptic patients.MethodsA total of102epileptic patients and75cases of gender, age and educational levelthink-matched healthy controls were assessed with clinical memory, quality of life, anxiety and depression scale measurement. Compare the difference between case andcontrol groups of these indicates. At the same time, collecting detailed clinical data foreach patient with epilepsy, including: gender, age, onset age, education, duration, seizurefrequency, medication, as well as EEG, brain MRI or cranial CT examination results.Analyze these clinical factors associated with memory function.Results1. The clinical memory (including memory quotient, point memory, associativelearning, image free recall, recognition meaningless graphics, portrait features memories)of epilepsy patients were lower than the normal control group (p <0.01).2. Quality of life assessment in patients with epilepsy display physiological andpsychological fields lower than the control group (p <0.05).3. ANOVA: memory quotient between gender, age of onset, duration, seizurefrequency, duration, drug use was no significant correlation (p>0.05).4. ANOVA showed memory is more easily damaged with a lower educational level in patients with epilepsy.5. Multiple regression analysis showed that the memory quotient affecting factorsare quality of life and education.6. Factors that affect the quality of life in patients with epilepsy followed by anxiety, education level, duration, onset frequency.Conclusions1. Memory function was impaired in young epileptic patients.2. The factors that affecting clinical memory were quality of life and cultural level.3. Anxiety, education, seizure frequency, duration factors affecting the quality of lifein patients with epilepsy.4. Improve the quality of life in patients with epilepsy (especially anxiety) may haveadvantage to reduce memory impairment of epileptic patients.
