Objective:To understand the classification, mechanism of action, clinical application and safety of Microbial ecological agents, and provide reference for clinical rational use. Methods:A series of literature both home and abroad concerning pharmacy were reviewed. Results:Microbial ecological agents play an important role in the reconstruction of the human body, especially in the balance of intestinal flora, the stability of internal environment and the adjustment the dysbacteriosis. Microbial Ecological Agents are mainly diyided into three classes of probiotics, prebiotics and biostime. Main functions of Microbial ecological agents include Antibacterial effect, enzyme action, smmunifaction, nutritional effect, stability of the intestinal barrier effect, antitumor effect, liver-protective effect and antilipemic effect. Microbial ecological agents could be used for the treatment and prevention of a variety of diseases associated with bacteria translocation inclouding about antibiotic associated diarrhea, inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, chronic liver disease, intestinal disorders in the elderly, pediatric digestive system diseases and so on.Conclusions:With the deepening of the research on the mechanism of action, clinical application, product development of Microbial ecological agents. Microbial ecological agents have more and more broad application prospects in clinical application. So in-depth understanding of the effect of Microbial ecological agents to the maintain the balance of digestive tract flora, prevent infection, enhance immunity and improve health level has very important significance.
