| Objective: To evaluate the treatment efficiency and safety ofultrasound-guided high intensity focused (USgHIFU) with aided MRimages for the complete ablation of uterine leiomyoman in comparison of IMR-guided high intensity focused ultrasound (MRgHIFU).Methods: To retrospectively analysis the clinical data and treatmentparameters of USgHIFU and MRgHIFU for treatments of28leiomyomasin22patients and13leiomyomas in10patients, respectively. All of theleiomyomans were completely ablated, which was confirmed on thecontrast ehhenced MR imaging (CE-MRI) by two radiologists. The basiccharacteristics of patients and leiomyomas, treatment parameters, andadverse events and complications were analyzed and compared betwweenUSgHIFU and MRgHIFU treatments. Results:The volumes of leiomyomas were118.9±55cm3and127.8±70.2cm3(P>0.05), the distances from the tumor center to abdominal wall skinwere70.4±18.1cm and70.8±18.9cm (P>0.05), the sonication time was19.9±6.8min and24.7±9.0min (P<0.05), the sonication energies were463.2±156.4kJ and483±248.2kJ (P>0.05), the energy efficiency factors(EEF) were4.7±2.5KJ/cm3and5.1±3.0and KJ/cm3(P>0.05), the average treatment time was114.4±39.2min and174.5±42.2min (P<0.05),the acoustic powers were391.6±16.6W and310.2±62.5W (P<0.05), theaverage treatment speeds were70.9±41.9cm3/h and42.2±25.6cm3/h(P<0.05) and the sonication intensity was246.2±33.2KJ/h and159.3±55.0KJ/h (P<0.05) in the USgHIFU group and the MRgHIFU group, respectively. There was no severe adverse event and complications. Conclusions: Ultrasound-guided high intensity focused ultrasound with theaided MR images was safe for complete ablation of uterine leiomyomas;and it was similar to MRgHIFU in the treatment energy efficiency andsuperior to MRgHIFU in the treatment time efficiency. |
