This research was based on the "real world study"(RWS)theory,to explore RWS methodology and apply it to evaluate the effectiveness of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) interventions in Rheumatoid arthritis(RA).Theoretical research:The effectiveness of TCM is the basis of its survival and development.TCM interventions have satisfactory effect on patients with RA. It’s urgent to evaluate the effectiveness of TCM interventions in RA with scientific methods, appropriate assessment system, convincing evidences, make the effectiveness widely recognized, so patients with RA could be treated more effectively. The characteristics of TCM make the research of TCM different from modern medicine and traditional randomized controlled trial (RCT) is difficult to fit it. RWS will become a powerful approach to TCM clinical trials and evaluation of TCM interventions. This study was to explore the effectiveness of TCM interventions in RA after summarizing the characteristics of RWS and studying the methods of evaluating TCM interventions’ effectiveness.Clinical research:This clinical study was a prospective study in combination with retrospective study,351cases of patients were observed on the first diagnosis,14days,30days,60days and90days,180days,1year. According to the investigations patients were divided into western medicine treatment group, combined Chinese and western medicine treatment group. Clinical data, TCM four diagnostic information, joint function classification, disease activity, laboratory indexes, treatment, treatment costs were recorded. With statistical analysis, multiple evaluation indexes, this study evaluated the effectiveness of TCM interventions in RA.The results indicated that because liver and kidney deficiency syndrome was common in RA, we should pay attention to difference between pathogenic factors in syndrome differentiation and treatment. Selecting the prescription of Pubescent Angelica and Loranthus Decoction would achieve functions of dehumidification, tonic liver and kidney. Compared with pure western medicine, combined Chinese and western medicine interventions treated patients with RA more effectively, could effectively relieve patients’ joint pain, tenderness, swelling and other symptoms, reduce the disease activity, improve the patients quality of life, at the same time did not increase the economic burden of patients.
