Objective:To evaluate the clinical effects for obstructive sleep apnea hyponeasyndrome (OSAS) by Han-uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (H-UPPP).Methods:312patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) scheduled for surgical treatment in our hospital from March2006to June2013were divided into two groups:group A (Han-uvulopalatopharyngoplasty, H-UPPP) and group B (uvulopalatopharyngoplasty, H-UPPP). They were examined by polysomnography (PSG) to evaluate the clinical effects after6months.Results:There were no significant difference between two groups in gender, age, body mass index and comorbidities. No significant differences of AHI, oxygen saturation, mean oxygen saturation and snoring and sleepiness classification were found before surgery (P>0.05). AHI, oxygen saturation, mean oxygen saturation and snoring and sleepiness classification of two groups after surgery were significantly difference from those before surgery (P<0.05). After surgery, AHI and snoring and sleepiness classification in H-UPPP group were lower than those in UPPP group, and oxygen saturation and mean oxygen saturation of H-UPPP group were higher than those in UPPP group (P<0.05). Self-evaluation for surgical results in H-UPPP group was better than those in UPPP group (P<0.05). Increases in age by1year and in body mass index by1kg/m2were associated with decreases of surgical results by (OR:0.94,95%:0.88-0.97) and (OR:0.89,95%:0.83-0.97), respectively. Patients with hypertension had a worse efficacy of surgical operation than patients without hypertension (OR:0.92,95%:0.86-0.98). Patients with H-UPPP had a worse clinical effect of surgical operation than patients with UPPP (OR:1.21,95%:1.12-1.34). Operative bleeding, nasopharyngeal reflux ratio and open nasal in H-UPPP group was significantly lower than those in UPPP group (P<0.01).Conclusions:Compared to UPPP surgery, H-UPPP surgery can effectively reduce postoperative complications, and improve the efficacy of surgery.
