With the population rapid growth, extension human activities, and development of industrial and agricultural production, natural water bodies are suffered to different degrees of pollution, water pollutants in the environment increasingly sevious. The components of causing odor pollutants are also more and more complex. The water treatment process for improving the water quality will produce new material of different olfactory. Anti-1,10-dimethyl-anti-9-naphthalene alkyl (Geosmin), two methyl isobutyl Endo alcohol (MIB), sodium hypochlorite (NaCIO) and iodoform (Iodoform) in drinking water are the most common different olfactory compounds. And conventional water treatment process is limited to remove most of this kind of pollutants. In the study, we established the methods of Geosmin, MIB and Iodoform instrument analysis and sensory analysis, and combined the two methods to analyze the main odor substances in drinking, in order to provide basis information for improving drinking water quality.Part I The establishment and application of equipment testing for main odor substances in drinking waterSolid phase extraction and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis of GSM and MIB in water were developed in the study. Experiments showed that the average recoveries were78.0%to81.0%and80.1%to85.2%, RSD were4.9%to12.5%and7.8%to13.6%via XAD-2enrichment of2-MIB and GSM. While, the average recoveries were72.6%to82.0%and78.4%to85.8%, RSD were5.5%to11.2%and4.3%to9.2%via ODS enrichment of those two target substances. It showed no significant differences between two different odor adsorptions. We also established method for determining iodoform in drinking water based on double-column gas chromatography with electron capture detection optimized pre-treatment and testing conditions, referring to the detection method recommended by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Gas chromatography with electron capture detection assay method showed good separation, symmetrical peak shape, no tail, solvents and less interference of impurities, stable baseline. The chromatographic separation time was40.67min, the recovery was96.8%and the precision was to3.5%.Part Ⅱ The establishment and application of sensory anylysis for main odor substances in drinking waterWe trained participants with the application of FPA, established odor AHP (FPA), and drew the odor standard curve. Olfactory threshold values of Geosmin, MIB, Iodoform and NaCIO were4.10ng/L,1.90μg/L,0.038mg/L and4.80ng/L respectively under the conditions of constant temperature water bath at45℃. Four standard curves were drawn; the regression coefficients were0.637,0.603,0.789and0.730.
