ObjectiveTo study the characteristics and the differents of the cranial base structures ofdifferent sagittal facial type of malocclusions, analyses the correlation betweencharacteristics of cranial base structures and sagittal facial type of malocclusions. Toprovide theory reference for orthodontic clinical diagnosis, orthonathic surgery andscientific research.Materials and Methods67average vertical facial type malocclusions patients with angle class Ⅰ, ⅡorⅢwere recruited from the Stomatologe Center of The First Affiliated Hospital ofZhengzhou University, age from18to30. The patients were divided into3groups.Group1included21patients with class Ⅰ (11male and10female); Group2included22patients with class Ⅱ (12male and11female); Group3included24patients with class Ⅲ (10male and14female). Independent-Sample Test and correlation Analysis were performed between the23X-cephalometric dates of the3groups by using SPSS17.0statistical software.Results1. PM-FH of class Ⅲ,Ⅰand Ⅱ reduce in turn, but have no statisticalsignificance.2. The structure of anterior cranial base, middle cranial base and posteriorcranial base of class Ⅰand Ⅱ have no statistical significance in morphology.3. The structure of anterior cranial base of classⅠand Ⅲ have statisticalsignificance. In class Ⅲ, the CF plane ture in clockwise direction compared with thePM plane, S-N is shorter, the maxillary position which related to the cranial base isretruded. Point A is on the later place. the mandible position which related to thecranial base is protruding. Point B is on the front place.4. N-S-Ba and SN-FH demonstrate a negative correlation between SNA andSNB respectively, ASEB and ANB are positively correlated with eath oter, NA-PMand NB-PM demonstrate a negative correlation with FH-PM.Conclusions1. PM plane is stable relative to FH plane, providing important reference.2. The structure of middle cranial base and posterior cranial base are relativelystable, The change of the anterior cranial base structure leads to the class Ⅲmesiocclusion and influences the position of maxillary.
