ObjectiveWe evaluated the clinical efficacy and safety of CIK cells immunotherapy combined with platinum chemotherapy and Xiaoji decoction, which means to establish a clinical optimal treatment plan of combine traditional Chinese and Western medicine for advanced NSCLC. Besides that, it can provide evidence of evidence-based medicine to clinical promotion.MethodsAccording to the inclusion criteria,40advanced NSCLC patients were randomly divided into treatment group and control group,20cases in each. Both of the groups were treated with4cycles of platinum chemotherapy and Xiaoji decoction. The treatment group was treated with CIK cells for immunotherapy seven days after chemotherapy. Progression free survival (PFS)> disease control rate(DCR)、objective remission rate (ORR)、clinical syndrome、 quality of life(QOL)、host cellular immune response and adverse drug reaction were investigated and compared between the two groups. PASW statistics17.0was used for statistical analysis. The measurement data which were corresponded normal distribution was analyzed and verified by independent samples t-test within group comparisons, while the comparison among groups was analyzed by paired samples t-test. The enumeration data was analyzed by Chi-squaretest and ranked data was analyzed by rank sum test. The survival analysis was analyzed by Kaplan-Meier test.Results1. Progression free survival (PFS)The progression free survival (PFS) of the treatment group was9.1months, while the other group was7.2months, which was statistically significantly different (P<0.05).2. The objective clinical efficacy evaluationThe objective remission rate(ORR) of the experiment group was20%and the disease control rate(DCR) was95%, which was higher than that of the control group (ORR:10%, DCR:70%, P>0.05).3. The curative effect evaluation of syndrome in TCMThe symptom score in treatment group was7.30±1.87before treatment, and4.75±1.62after treatment, while in control group it was4.75±1.62,6.50±1.96, respectively. After treatment, the clinical symptom score significantly decreased in treatment group (P<0.05), and it was lower than that in control group (P<0.05).The clinical syndrome distribution of curative effect in two groups is significant different (Z--2.465, P<0.05). The total efficiency of clinical syndrome curative effect in treatment group is65%, while it was25%in control group. The improvement rates of Chinese medical pattern in treatment group was higher than it in control group (P<0.05)4. The change of KPSThe Karnofsky score distribution of curative effect in two groups is significant different(Z=-2.465, P<0.05). The total increase rate in treatment group was90%, while it was80%in control group. The improvement rates of Chinese medical pattern in treatment group was higher than it in control group (P<0.05).There was no significant statistical difference between two groups (P>0.05)5. Immune functionThe CD3+、CD4+cells in treatment group were significantly elevated after treatment (P<0.05), while in treatment group the CD8+, CD4+/CD8+had no change (P>0.05). The CD3+in control group decreased significantly (P<0.05) after treatment, while the CD4+,CD8+, CD4+/CD8+in control group had no significant change (P>0.05)6. SafetyThere was1case of mild fever in treatment group after treatment, while the patient could relieve by symptomatic treatment. No significant heart, liver or kidney function damage was observed.ConclusionThe Progression free survival was siganificantly longer and clinical symptom was better in CIK cells combined with Platinum chemotherapy and Xiaoji decoction than in the control group. Therefore, CIK cells combined with Platinum chemotherapy and Xiaoji decoction can improve the survival and prolong the PFS of advanced non-small-cell Lung Cancer. The treatment of this research is simple, sure efficacy and worth clinical popularizing widely.
