Objective: To analyze Long-term improvements in quality of life and symptomsimproved after functional endoscopic sinus surgery and evaluate therapeutic value foradolescents after functional endoscopic sinus surgery for adolescents with chronicrhinosinusitis. Methods: Refer to chronic sinusitis diagnostic criteria, our department have treated729cases of adolescents with chronic nasal–sinusitis from2003to2008. All of them haveaccepted the functional open sinus surgery, and270of patients have been chosen toparticipate in the survey analysis with random sample methods. Using the SNOT-20scale toassess preoperative and postoperative quality of life and improvement of symptoms after3,8years, for statistical analysis. And compare with the healthy people with the same age.The assessment includes: embarrassment, sadness, frustration restlessness, irritability, lackof concentration, decreased work efficiency, fatigue, after waking up tired, lack of qualitysleep, waking at night to sleep, difficult to enter sleep, facial pressure, ear pain, dizziness, ear fullness, sticky mucus flow, flow backward nose, cough, runny nose, sneezing, ect. Results: According to SNOT-20scale assessments showed1.preoperative and postoperative quality of life overall significant difference (p=0.000),while some of the symptoms (dizziness, facial pressure, difficult to enter sleep, embarrassment, fatigue) was no significant difference (p>0.05).2. In contrast to the healthy people, dizziness, facial pressure, difficult to go to sleep andfatigue symptoms are no significant difference (p>0.05).3. Age, living conditions and education background are positively correlated, andpreoperative duration of disease and quality of life was negatively correlated.4. Patients from12to15years old who symptoms has improved after surgery includedthose who wipe the nose, streaming clear nose, cough, runny nose backward flow, flow thick nose, ear fullness, easily tired after waking up, lack of quality sleep, waking at nightto sleep, inability to concentrate, depression, restlessness, irritability, sadness. Meanwhilethose who symptoms did not improve included that decreasing work efficiency, sneezing, ear pain, wipe the nose, dizziness, facial pressure, difficult to enter sleep, embarrassment, fatigue. However patients from16to18years old symptoms has improved after surgeryincluded those who wipe runny nose, sneezing, runny nose, cough, runny nose backwardflow, flow thick nose, ear fullness, easily tired after waking up, waking at night to sleep, earpain, decreased work efficiency, inability to concentrate, depression, restlessness irritability.Thou patients whose symptoms did not improve included that those who are lack oft qualitysleep, sorrow, wipe the nose, dizziness, facial pressure, difficult to enter sleep, embarrassment, fatigue moreover patients from16to18years old life quality are betterthan age from12to15.Conclusion:1.Chronic Nasal-sinusitis adolescent patients after receiving treatment with openingfunctional sinus surgery, which should have strict indications. After a suitable case fortreatment of functional sinus function open surgery, long-term quality of life can have asignificant improved and this treatment has a positive effect. But it can not solve all of theclinical symptoms.2. While life quality of children are effected by their age, living conditions, educationbackground. That is to say that older, better living environment, higher educationbackground are better life quality after surgery. The preoperative duration of disease wasnegatively correlated. That means longer duration prior to the surgery, postoperativeimprovement of life quality would be worse.3. Years from12to15compared with years from16to18got basically the same symptomsafter surgery but the symptoms which failed to improve are different. Years between12and15symptoms mainly in decreasing work efficiency, sneezing, ear pain. But yearsbetween16to18symptoms mainly in lacking of quality sleep, sorrow-based. So It shouldbe considered about the ages of patients and patient’s surgical indications.
