Objective: To explore the different sleep states, young women during the follicularphase difference in recognition of sad faces brain regions, and provide a theoreticalbasis for the correlation mechanism between women’s sleep and mood disorders.Subjects: Recruited68healthy female volunteers of Dalian Medical University asthe research object, according to the Pittsburgh Sleep Questionnaire, Minnesotamultiphasic personality inventory, state trait anxiety questionnaire, life event, menstrualcycle curve evaluation, screening out of16healthy women in the experimental group, inthe follicular phase of the next menstruation, all the participants into brain functionexperiment. Methods: Self-control experiment designed to study the differences observedemotional face recognition under different sleep states in the three states. Namely:normal sleep,24hours of sleep deprivation and four hours of sleep recovery; faceemotion recognition task: neutral-sad faces pictures; using3.0Tesla Philips MRIscanning system to collect participants’ brain activation signal. SPM8softwareprocessing using the data for analysis.Results:1. The scores for each comparison:①subjective sleep scores threegroups of subjects ANOVA analysis showed significant differences (P <0.05);②stateanxiety scores in the group of normal sleep and sleep deprivation group, normal sleepgroup and sleep recovery groups were significantly (P <0.05), and sleep deprivationgroup and sleep recovery group difference was not significant (P>0.05);③mood state scores in tension, anger, fatigue, sleep deprivation group and sleep recovery significantdifference between groups (P <0.05), while among the group of normal sleep and sleeprecovery group difference was not significant (P>0.05). Group of normal sleep andsleep deprivation group mood state rating for fatigue, energy and panic significantdifference (P <0.05);2. Under the three groups to sleep sadness enhance brain areasactivated:(1) sleep deprivation group-normal sleep group: right and left calcarinefissure and surrounding cortex; the left middle cerebral cingulate and side surroundback, cerebellar peduncle1zone and the anterior lobe4,5zone,paracentral lobule, thesupplementary motor area and post central gyrus; right amygdale, anterior cingulategyrus and side surround gyrus, the cerebellar vermis zone6,hippocampus,medial frontalgyrus, the precentral gyrus and medial superior frontal gyrus (neutral); the right medialsuperior frontal gyrus, cingulate brain (front, middle) and side surround gyri, the leftsub-lobe white matter outside the nucleus, the amygdala (sad); normal sleep group-sleepdeprivation group: right temporal lobe angular gyrus (sad).(2)Sleep recovery group-normal sleep group: the left sub-lobe claustrum gray matter, cerebellar vermis zone3and hippocampus; the right sub-lobe white matter outside the nucleus, frontal deepwhite matter and cerebellar anterior lobe4,5zone (sad). The left superior temporalgyrus white matter, cerebellar peduncle1area and cerebellum posterior lobe of the8area; the right calcarine fissure and surrounding cortex, anterior central gyrus, frontaldeep white matter, supplementary motor area, superior occipital gyrus,sub-lobehippocampus,fusiform gyrus (neutral); normal sleep group-sleep recovery group: None(sad and neutral).(3) sleep recovery group-sleep deprivation group: left frontalRolandic operculum, right inferior temporal gyrus and middle temporal gyrus (neutral);left frontal Rolandic operculum, areas outside the core of the right sub-lobe white matter(sad). Sleep deprivation group-Sleep Recovery Group: left anterior cingulate whitematter, outside the core of sub-lobe,middle cingulate gyrus and side surround gyrus, theright anterior cingulate gyrus and side surround gyrus (neutral) and without (sad).Conclusions:1.24hours of sleep deprivation can subjective experience anxiety, nervousness, anger, fatigue, panic and decreased energy, and4hours of sleep recovery can relieve thetension, anger, fatigue and almost reached the level of the normal sleep.2.Women on both sides of the brain are involved in the processing of sadness, andthe differences in location, quantity and strength of different sleep states exist for thesad emotion processing brain regions. When the female brain function below the normalstate, the ability to reduce facial emotion recognition to identify brain regions involvedin processing requires more and more strongly activated (neutral even more in sadness, grief of drift occurs), these brain regions, including the limbic system, frontal lobe, temporal lobe, cerebellum. When the female brain function in higher than normal levelsof the state, to accomplish the same task requires less brain areas involved in theperformance of conservation and efficient.3.Women sadness processing, short sleep recovery can selectively reduce theintensity of the activation of brain areas appear under sleep deprivation, but the site isnot completely overlap; which tend to be the basic resilience of normal emotionalprocessing.4. Women there are some differences between subjective experience and brainregions activated degree of sleep deprivation and sleep recovery...
