Catechin is classified as flavan-3-ols and relative ester derivative, which is themain ingredient of polyphenols in the leaves of the tea. Catechin is the mostbeneficial ingredient in the tea for human health and also has significant diversity ofbiological activities. In order to study its biological activities, we need lots ofoptically pure catechin and its derivatives. So we utilized chemical synthese methodof Sharpless asymmetric dihydroxylation and Lewis acid-catalyzed cyclization torapidly and efficiently get optically pure (+)-Afzelechin and (-)-Afzelechin (the eevalue of the product is up to95%and97%, respectively). In addition, we synthesizedArthromerin B and also revised its structure.
