Objective The purpose of the study was to understand the epidemiologic characteristics and the variation trend of direct medical espenses of injury cases in The First People’s Hospital of LuoYang, to analyze the causes and risk factors of injury and the direct medical burden, and to provid basis to relevent departments to formulate the preventional strategies and carry out the intervention project.Methods Using descriptive study as the method to research the epidemiological characristics and their direct medical expenses of the injury cases in The First People’s Hospital of Luoyang during2008to2012.Results1.17237injury cases were reported from2008to2012, The ratio of male to female was2.09:1; the largest injury cases was the age group of25-44years’(36.3%); the educational level of most cases was low (89.35%); the top three careers which likely to occur injury were no-regular employment (25.88%), peasants(14.74%) and stuents(11.1%); the top three sites where happened injury were heighway/street (39.25%), public places (18.89%) and home (14.19%)2. The top three causes of injury were traffic injury (26.81%), blunt injury (25.6%) and fall (22.27%); for nature of injury the top three were bruise (48.20%), open wound (26.39%) and fracture (9.20%); the top three parts of body esay to get hurt were head(46.88%), upper limbs (15.84%) and lower limbs (14.51%); going home after treatment was the mainly outcome.3. During five years, both of the total expenses of hospitalization and outpatients medical fees had increased, while the average hospitalization days and the average outpatient days had decreased. The average growth rate of the total hospitalization espenses was20.71%, the average growth rate of the total outpatient espenses was36.04%, the average growth rate of the total direct medical expenses was22.56%.Conclusions1. The injury cases of The First People’s Hospital of Luoyang City were mainly young men, low level of education and no-regular employment;2. The main causes of injury were traffic injury, blunt injury and fall, the mainly outcome was going home after treatment.3. The direct medical expenses of injury cases had increased year by year, the increasing of average hospitalization espenses exceeded the decreasing of the average hospitalization days; the same as the outpatients.
