| Objective:This study was designed to evaluate the drug-safety and the effects of Huanglian Jiangtang tablets on serum glucose levels, anti-diabetic retinopathy, serum lipid levels in diabetic models, and investigate the effects of Huanglian Jiangtang tablets on glucose tolerance, immune system and anti-hypoxic effect in non-diabetic mice.Method:The acute toxicity test and chronic toxicity test were conducted to evaluate the drug-safety of Huanglian Jiangtang tablets.Alloxan induced diabetic rats and mice were used, to investigate the effect of reducing serum glucose, triglycerides and anti-diabetic retinopathy of Huanglian Jiangtang tablets. The effects of Huanglian Jiangtang tablets on glucose tolerance of mice, and on the phagocytosis of the mice abdominal cavity macrophage and on the survival time of mice under anoxia were observed.Results:The results of acute toxicity test in the mice indicated that the LD50is119.26g/kg, the MLD (minimum lethal dose) is87.77g/kg.The results of chronic toxicity test in the rats indicated that Huanglian Jiangtang tablets had no harmful effect on the rats in the follwing indexes:exercises, food eating quantity, hematology, biochemistry, pathologic examination. There was a significant decrease in serum glucose level, serum triglycerides and diabetic retinopathy occurrence after treated with Huanglian Jiangtang tablets. Huanglian Jiangtang tablets exered a remarkable influence on glucose tolerance in non-diabetic mice and prolonged survival time of mice in anoxia and showed an increased index of phagocytosis with Huanglian Jiangtang tablets.Conclusion:Huanglian Jiangtang tablets has higher safe dose range and its clinical dose is safe. It has been concluded that Huanglian Jiangtang tablets has remarkable therapeutic effects in diabetes mellitus. It can reduce serum glucose, also show anti-hyperlipidemic, anti-diabetic retinopathy, improve glucose tolerance and anti-hypoxic activity as well as improve the function immune system. |
