ObjectiveTo observe different traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) Syndromes of the hyperplasiamammary gland(HMG) and the characteristics in their image taken by mammography andMRI, and to analyze the relationship between the TCM Syndromes of HMG and theirimaging characteristics, providing imaging data for the TCM syndrome differentiationMethodsTwo hundreds women with the hyperplasia of mammary gland were classified intothree TCM Syndromes to observe the distribution of age, duration, and the features wereanalyzed by the mammography,MRI and dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonanceimaging (DCE-MRI) scan time intensity curve in three TCM Syndromes the hyperplasia ofmammary gland.ResultsAmong the200patients, the TCM Syndromes varied in different ages. Majority ofyoung patients showed Stagnation of Liver Qi Type(SLQT), the Chongren ImpairmentType(CHT) increased as patients aging, in older patients demonstrated more CHT, while inpatients with shorter duration presented more SLQT, and as duration lengthened the SLQTdecreased and the CHT increased. Mammography showed that the most CHT type in the fattype patients, and more CHT and Intermin-gled Phlegm and Blood Stasis Type(IPBT) in thepatients with a small amount of glandular, and in the patients with a multitude of glandsdemonstrated more SLQT and IPBT type. MRI demonstrated that regional compact orcord-like enhancement image were seen mostly in the CHT and SLQT type, then theintermin-gled phlegm and blood stasis. The spots and sheets enhancement image presentedmainly in CHT and IPBT type, and then the SLQT type. The patchy, spot and multiplenodules image exhibited mainly in SLQT and IPBT type, then the CHT type. Conclusions1. The Mammography and MRI image of different TCM type of HMG showed theirrespective characteristics.2. The Data of Mammography and MRI can provide the base for syndromedifferentiation and for dialectical therapy of TCM.
