A biological cortical bone interbody fusion cage was fabricated for spinalinterbody fusion. Bovine cortical bone used as raw material, through a series ofphysical, chemical and biological treatment, biological cortical bone withcomposition, structure and mechanical properties similar to of human bone wasprepared. In vitro cell culture experiments showed that the biological cortical bonehas good biocompatibility. The biological cortical bone cylinders integrated withhost bone after four weeks of implantation into goat bone defects in the distal femur.Biological cortical bone column staining darker red than the host bone and nosignificant degradation was observed after8weeks of implantation. To further enhance spinal fusion, the biological cortical bone with cavity wasprepared and combined with autogenous bone for goat cervical intervertebral fusion.Anterior cervical plate was also used for internal fixation. Radiological resultsshowed that biological cortical bone fused with surrounding bone six months afterimplantation. Histological observation showed bone fusion and no other adversereactions.
