Objective To compare the influence of low-osmolar contrast media with iso-osmolar contrast media on renal function of the elderly patients above75-year-old undergoing coronary angiography or percutaneous coronary intervention. Methods A retrospective analysis was performed in a total of202elderly pati-ents above75-year-old who had undergone CAG or PCI in Department of Cardiolo-gy,at Xiamen Heart Center, from January2011to December2013.Patients were divid-ed into group A(low-osmosis contrast medium—LOCM,using iopromide)98cases,and group B(iso-osmosis contrast medium—IOCM,using iodixanol)104cases,ac-cording to the type of contrast media.Clinical features,pre-and post-operative differe-nce of serum creatinine (Scr) and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR),the rateof contrast induced nephropathy(CIN) of the two groups were obtained and analyzed. Results There were no statistical significant difference in the clinical features, the pre-and post-operative difference of Scr,the eGFR between the low-osmolar con-trast media group and the iso-osmolar contrast media group(P>0.05). In both groupsthere were Scr increasing and eGFR decreasing which caused CIN,which either usingthe low-osmosis contrast medium(iopromide) or the iso-osmosis contrast medium(io-dixanol). Among202patients,CIN occurred in five patients(the incidence of CIN was2.48%).CIN occurred in four patients in group A,one patient in group B,the CIN ratewere higher in group A than in group B(4.08%VS0.96%),but there also were no statistical significant difference between the two groups (P>0.05).Conclusion Low-osmolar and iso-osmolar contrast medium may have the sam-e renal function injury on the elderly patients above75-year-old undergoing CAG orPCI.
