Background and Objective: Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a verycommon head and neck malignant tumor in China. Distant metastasis is one of themain reasons for failure in nasopharyngeal carcinoma. China is the high incidenceinfection for hepatitis B virus (HBV), and according to the research, after infected byHBV, the immunity of liver function has enhanced. And another study has pointed outthat the colonization of the malignant tumor will be affected by the immunemicroenvironment around tumor. Hence, the present study was to investigate theimpact of HBV infection on liver metastasis of NPC.Methods: Retrospective analysis of249NPC patient’s clinical data fromJiangxi Provincial Tumor Hospital Department of Radiation Oncology from June2008to December2012,83patients with liver metastasis were identified as cases, andeach patient was matched with three control patients: with extra-liver metastasis、with no metastasis、metastasis group, one Case patients and control patients werematched for T and N,Chi-square test was used to compare the Sex、Age and HbsAgof these two groups of patients, using t tests for continuous variables, and the Logisticregression model was used for multivariate analysis.Results:(1)liver metastasis group and extra-liver metastasis group showedthat:HbsAg(X2=6.76,P=0.018);liver metastasis group and no metastasis groupshowed that:HbsAg(X2=8.868,P=0.005;metastasis group and no metastasis groupHbsAg showed that:HbsAg(X2=0.195,P=0.826);extra-liver metastasis group andno metastasis group showed that:HbsAg(X2=3.629,P=0.077),HBV infectionwas prognostic factor of NPC with liver metastasis;(2)Univariate and multivariateanalysis showed that:liver metastasisagroup and extra-liver metastasis groupHbsAg(P=0.018),liver1metastasis.group.and.nometastasis.group.HbsAg(P=0.008,HR=0.705,95%CI:1.760-43.062)、LDH(P=0.002,HR=2.181,95%CI:0.060-0.543),metastasis group and no metastasis group LDH(t=3.043,P=0.003),showed that:HBV infection was independent protective factor of NPC with liver metastasis; LDHwas independent risk factor of NPC with metastasis. Conclusions: HBV infection decreases the risk of liver metastasis for NPCpatients, maybe due to the HBV infection strengthen NPC patients’immune function.LDH was maybe prognostic factor of NPC with metastasis.
