Objective: This research makes systematic toxicology experiment on the Chinese MedicineWeikuian with mice as the research objects, aiming to make scientific evaluation to the safety ofChinese Medicine Weikuian and make assurance of the clinical medication, and to providescientific basis for the future development and utilization of this drug; thus, this systematictoxicology experiment will lay solid theoretical foundation for the further studies in this drug.Method:1. Acute toxicity test: after successive administration for7days and observationfor another7days with drug discontinuance, the mice were killed and dissected, and theirvisceral organs were made into histological examination.2. Cumulative toxicity test: aftersuccessive administration for20days, the vitality, appetite, water drinking, activity andintoxication conditions of the mice were observed, and then such observations were suspendedfor7days but the weight changes and death amounts of these mice were observed in these7days.3. Subchronic toxicity test: during the ninety days feeding study, the weight changes of themice were observed, and their food ration, daily weight increase and feed use ratio are recorded. The mice were caught and killed regularly and their physical signs were examined.4.Traditional teratogenicity test: the female mice were impregnated and then were administratedwith the drug daily for10days from the7th to16th day, and their weight changes were observed;then they were killed on the20th day, and their absorbed fetus, live fetus and dead fetus wererecorded, the body weight, body height and trial height of the live fetus mice were measured, thedeformity in their appearance and their skeletons were examined.5. Sperm abnormality test: themice were killed by cervical dislocation on the35th day after first drug administration, and thentheir sperm conditions were observed by microscope.Results:1. Acute toxicity test: after successive administration for7days, the observationresults in the following7days showed that the vitality, appetite, water drinking and otherconditions of all mice were of no difference compared with those of the control group.2.Cumulative toxicity test: the influences of different doses of drugs on the growth of mice wereof no significant difference.3. Subchronic toxicity test: during the ninety days feeding study, theaverage food ration, daily weight increase and feed use ratio had no obvious difference; after themice were caught and killed, their hematological detection and measurement of organcoefficients had no obvious difference with those of the control group.4. Traditionalteratogenicity test: there was no significant difference between the dosage group and control group, which indicated that the Chinese Medicine Weikuian had no teratogenic effect on themice.5. Sperm abnormality test: the experimental results were negative, so Chinese MedicineWeikuian had no mutagenic action on the somatic cells of mice. Conclusion: The experimental results show that the Complex Chinese Medicine has verylow toxicity and is safe and reliable in clinical application, so it is worth of further research anddevelopment.
