Pteroxygonum giraldii Damm. et Diels belongs to Pteroxygonum genus,Polygonum family, which is an indigenous plant of China. The roots of this plant areused as a folk medicine named―Qiao Mai Qi‖in China for treating haematemesis, lower metrorrhagia, tumefaction, burn rheumatic condition and anti-dysentery. Thechemical constituents of Pteroxygonum giraldii have been reported rarely. Therefore,we conducted studies on chemical constituents of the title plant. The chemical constituents of the n-butanol extracts from the roots of P. giraldiiwere isolated and purified by column chromatography over silica gel, polyamide,Sephadex LH-20. The structures were elucidated on the basis of physicochemicalproperties and spectral data analyses. Fourteen compounds were isolated andidentified as3-O-methylmyricetin-3’-O--D-xylopyranoside (PGE-1), daucosterol(PGE-10),5,7,5’-trihydroxy-3,4’-di-O-methoxyflavone-2’-O--D-glucopyranoside(PGE-16),5,7,4’,5’-tetrahydroxy-3-O-methoxyflavone-2’-O--D-glucopyranoside(PGE-17), myricetin-3-O--L-rhamnopyranoside (PGE-18), myricetin-3-O--D-ga-lactopyranoside (PGE-19), quercetin-3-O--D-galactopyranoside (PGB30-3),(E)-2,3,5,4’-tetrahydroxystilbene-2-O--D-glucopyranoside (PGB30-5), fructose (PGB30-6),mono butyl2-(4-hydroxybenzyl)tartrate (PGB30-8), adenine (PGB30-11), n-butylgallate (PGB50-2), quercetin (PGB50-8), butyl(4-β-D-glucopyranosyloxy-phenyl)acetate (PGB50-9). PGB50-9is a new compound. PGB30-3, PGB30-5, PGB30-6,PGB30-8, PGB30-11, PGB50-2, PGB50-8were reported for the first time from thegenus Pteroxygonum.
