Objective: To evaluate the short-term clinical effects of the titanium mini plate inposterior cervical expansive open-door laminoplasty. Methods: The clinical data of31patients with cervical stenosis that had been treatedwith cervical posterior open-door laminoplasty with mini titanium plate fixation bysame group of physicians were retrospectively analyzed. The operation time, bloodloss, Japanese Orthopaedic Association Scores (JOA score), the changes of sagittaldiameter of cervical canal and cervical curve before and after surgery, andpostoperative complications were evaluated to assess the effect of this surgery. Results: The average operation time was166.45±48.27min, and the blood loss was191.94±123.89ml. Pre-operative JOA score was8.39±2.58, while postoperative JOAscore increased to13.77±2.03which was significantly improved (P<0.05). Theimprove rate of JOA score was63.91%. Pre-operative cervical curve was18.58±7.69°,and decreased to15.56±7.28°6months after surgery, which had significantlystatistically difference (P<0.01). The average sagittal cervical canal diameter wasincreased from8.99±1.43mm preoperative to17.03±3.44mm postoperative, whichhad78%of improvement. One cases (3.22%) had C5nerve root paralysis,5cases(16.12%) appeared axial symptoms. Conclusion: Open-door laminoplasty with mini titanium plate internal fixation canachieve satisfied clinical effects on the recovery of nerve function. The cervicalstability can be obtained immediately after surgery. The laminoplasty with mini platefixation had the advantages of convenient operation, less operative time, maintaininglamina opening, conducing to fracture healing, and promoting early functionalexercise, which proved to be a safe and effective operation.
