Objective This study evaluated the short-term and mid-term clinical outcomes of physiological mitral ring annuloplasty for mitral regurgitation. Methods We retrospectively analyzed a consecutive series of123patients (mean age,49.62±15.59years,63males and60females) who underwent mitral ring annuloplasty for mitral regurgitation in the period between2009and2013. The etiology was degeneration (66.7%),ischemic (18.7%),congenital(8.9%),endocarditis(5.6%).Results No hospital mortality and morbidity for SAM.Postoperative echocardiography showed significant improvement in mitral valve function with reduction in mitral regurgitation grade from (3.79±0.42) to (0.83±0.61), left atrial diameter from (4.97±0.88)cm to (4.15±0.62)cm,left ventricular diameter (5.71±0.97)cm to (4.73±0.77)cm.It was significantly reduced compared with preoperative (P<0.05).Cardiac function of patients was NYHA class I or II when discharged. Conclusion The physiological mitral ring annuloplasty for mitral regurgitation showed good overall performance with significant improvement in cardiac function in the short-term and mid-term.Expected increased durability of this method should be verified at longer follow-up.
