Objectives:To evaluate the prognostic accuracy of European Organization of Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) risk tables in patients with non-muscle invasive bladder urothelial cancer treated in The Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University Medical College. Methods:The clinical data of236patients from January2003to December2007were analyzed retrospectively, Transurethral resection of the bladder tumor and postoperative intravesical instillation were performed on all the patients. Routine follow-up was conducted on all the patients and the mean follow-up period was41months(range from16to78months). By using the risk tables, the236patients was divided into four groups according to the scores obtained from six items:number, size, recurrence or not, stage, carcinoma in situ or not, grade. The probabilities of recurrence and progression at1year and5year for each group were calculated and the statistical analysis of the data obtained from EORTC risk tables were carried out. Results:According to calculated value of the patients, recurrence rate in1year and5year of Group0, Group1-4, Group5-9, Group10-17was11.1%.21.2%.35.6%.55.2%and25.9%.43.9%.58.6%.75.9%respectively; and progression rate in1year and5year of Group0, Group2-6, Group7-13, Group14-23was0.1.2%.5.2%.15.4%and0.9.4%.13.8%.50.0%respectively. Compared with EORTC Risk Tables, no significant statistical difference was shown(P>0.05).Conclusions:EORTC Risk Tables is feasible to evaluate the recurrence and progression risk of non-muscle invasive bladder urothelial cancer of patients in our hospital and could help urologists to make reasonable treatment and follow up plan. Nevertheless, the long term usage and feasiblility towards all Chinese patient needs further study in greater population.
