Part One Whether there are differences of knee rotational alignment between ethnicsIntroduction: The difference of knee between races has been determined, but whether there aredifferences between ethnics wasn’t known yet. We designed this study to find the relationship of kneerotational alignment in different ethnics. Methods: Volunteers were recruited from Guyuan city residents. All volunteers who matched therequirement accept knee CT scan. CT data was import to MIMICS10.01to calculate3-D model of theirknees. Posterior condylar angle, condylar twist angle and Whiteside’s angle was measured on the3-Dmodel.Results: Posterior condylar angle of Hui and Han group is3.79°and3.97°respectively, andCondylar twist angle is7.16°and7.16°, Whiteside’s angle is5.23°and4.91°respectively. There is nostatistical significance between Hui and Han ethnic of all three angles. Conclusion: There are no statistical significance of PCA, CTA and WA between Hui and Hanethnic who lives in the same environment. Part Two New methods to determine femoral prosthesis rotational alignment withconventional anatomy landmarksIntroduction: Femoral prosthesis rotational alignment is one of the most important factors for thesuccessful of total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Malrotational will lead to postoperative complication, kneedysfunctional and eventually revision surgery. The use of existing methods is being debate. We tried to findsome new methods to locate rotational alignment with the original anatomy landmarks. Methods: Volunteers were recruited from healthy individuals. All volunteers who matched therequirement accept knee CT scan, and data was import to MIMICS10.01to calculate3-D model of theirknees and to measure epicondylar distance (ED), epicondylar angle(EA) and Whiteside’s angle (WA).Results: The mean value of ED is5.63mm, Std. Deviation (SD) is1.05mm. The mean value of EA is7.10°, SD is1.70°. The mean value of WA is3.22°, SD is3.72°.Conclusion:ED and EA are very stable and reliable when located on3D model, but whether theyare as reliable as in experiment needed more clinical proof.
