For determine the production performance and interannual variation with nutrition indicators of different alfalfa varieties in different ecological areas as well as the differentia on ecological adaptation, 20 different varieties of alfalfa(Medicago sativa L.) were used as the research material in Huangyang town of Wuwei city and Yongdeng town of Lanzhou city, two consecutive years measurement and analysis of the hay yield, plant height, S/L, FW/DW, crude protein, acid detergent fiber, neutral detergent fiber, crude ash and crude fat content were conducted with the early bloom age alfalfa. The results showed that the hay yields of Medicago sativa L. CV. Alfaqueen was the highest in both the Huangyang town and Yongdeng town ecological areas, which was 8.15 t/hm2 and 7.78 t/hm2 respectively. Medicago sativa L. CV. Gannong No.4 in Huangyang showed the highest plant height(102.44cm) while Medicago sativa L. CV. AC Caribou in Yongdeng showed the highest(96.44cm). Medicago sativa L. CV. Longdong in Huangyang have the most crude protein(18.08%), but in Yongdeng ecoregion Medicago sativa L. CV. Longzhong showed the best on crude protein content(17.91%). Medicago sativa L. CV. Alfaking have the lowest acid detergent fiber content in Huangyang ecological areas, which is 31.19%, and Medicago sativa L. CV. Sun-god, Medicago sativa L. CV. Pltao tied for the lowest in Yongdeng ecological areas which is 33.99%. In Huangyang ecological areas, Neutral detergent fiber content of Medicago sativa L. CV. Alfaking was the lowest(39.08%), while Medicago sativa L. CV. Polaris is the lowest(42.96%) in Yongdeng. From the perspective of interannual variation, hay yield, plant height, S/L, FW/DW, crude protein and crude fat content of the third year alfalfa were higher than the second year in Huangyang area. But acid detergent fiber, neutral detergent fiber and crude ash content of the third year alfalfa were lower than that of the second year. Meanwhile, the hay yield of alfalfa, plant height, S/L, acid detergent fiber, neutral detergent fiber and ether extract content of the third year alfalfa were higher than that of the second year in Yongdeng region, and FW/DW, crude protein and crude ash content of the third year alfalfa were lower than the second year. Through the comparison of two years analysis, the hay yield, FW/DW, crude protein and crude ash of alfalfa in Huangyang area were higher than that in the Yongdeng region on the whole. But the plant height, S/L, acid detergent fiber, neutral detergent fiber and ether extract content of alfalfa in Yongdeng region were higher than that of Huangyang area on the whole. In order to select quality alfalfa cultivars suitable for the desert oasis irrigation district and semi-arid irrigation district in Gansu Province in China. According to grey relevancy theory, grey associated degrees integrated evaluation analysis was conducted with 8 indicators of alfalfa in two different ecological district. 8 index including hay yield, plenty height, S/L, crude protein, acid detergent fiber, neutral detergent fiber, ash and ether extract were separately measured in 2014 and 2015 and the average were used for analysis. The results showed that Medicago sativa L. CV. Alfaking, Medicago sativa L. CV. Gannong No.4, Medicago sativa L. CV. Longdong, Medicago sativa L. CV. Polaris comprehensively performed excellent in the Huangyang ecoregion areas, while Medicago sativa L. CV. Pltao, Medicago sativa L. CV. Alfaqueen, Medicago sativa L. CV. Alfaking, Medicago sativa L. CV. Polaris performed excellent in Yongdeng ecoregion areas. These varieties deserved greatly extension in each of these ecoregion areas. In order to explore the variation of nutrition value of alfalfa among different growth periods. Randomized block design was used at Wuwei area in Gansu Province with 20 different alfalfa varieties as the study material. Alfalfa was sowing in August 2013, and sampling at the budding stage, early bloom, full bloom stage in 2015. The contents of crude protein, neutral detergent fiber, acid detergent fiber, ether extract and crude ash were measured in the different growth period, respectively. The result showed that there were significant differences(P < 0.05) on nutrition values on the same material between the different growth period. In budding stage, early bloom, full bloom stage, the highest crude protein contained varieties were Medicago sativa L. cv. Polaris(22.06%), Medicago sativa L. cv. Cossack(18.81%), Medicago sativa L. cv. Longdong(16.41%). The lowest acid detergent fiber contained varieties were Medicago sativa L. cv. Gannong No.1(22.18%), Medicago sativa L. cv. Longzhong(31.16%), Medicago sativa L. cv. Alfaking(36.97%); Medicago sativa L. cv. Gannong No.7(27.59%), Medicago sativa L. cv. Alfaking(38.10%), Medicago sativa L. cv. Alfaking(44.35%) have the lowest neutral detergent fiber. Medicago sativa L. cv. Longdong(9.40%), Medicago sativa L. cv. Alfaqueen(9.00%), Medicago sativa L. cv. Gannong No.8(6.02%) have the lowest crude ash content. The highest ether extract contained varieties were Medicago sativa L. cv. Zhongmu No.1(2.91%), Medicago sativa L. cv. Cossack(2.78%), Medicago sativa L. cv. Gannong No.7(3.04%). The content of crude protein and crude ash gradually decreased with increasing growth period. In the contrary, the content of neutral detergent fiber and acid detergent fiber gradually increased with increasing growth period. The ether extract content showed the same trend.
