With the trend of southern tea moving northward is more and more obvious, in addition to the hills and mountains, the areas for planting tea in some provinces and regions in the north of china are becoming more and more widely,the demands for tea garden management crawlers are becoming more urgent.The current high-clearance tea garden management crawlers mostly adopt "Longmen Type" hydraulic self-propelled chassis traveling system which is composed of frame,suspension and crawler traveling devices,but the suspension of the traveling system is rigid,the crawler’s ride comfort is poor, so this paper design a new type chassis traveling system of high-clearance tea garden management crawler which is more lightweight and its suspension has an elastic cushioning property,then this paper have a finite element analysis and lightweight design for the chassis traveling system.Firstly,according to the design requirements of chassis traveling system of high-clearance tea garden management crawler,this paper define the traveling system with triangle crawler and side beam frame and semi-rigid suspension as the overall design scheme,then model and assembly three-dimensional model of each part by CATIA, finally gets three-dimensional models of chassis traveling system and the whole machine.Secondly,the model of whole machine has a brief performance analysis which includes the calculation of inherent frequency of the suspension,the horizontal and vertical limit turning angle and limit glide angle’s calculation, maximum width of crossing trench and maximum height of overcoming the stair.Again,this paper introduce the force calculation of crawler in traveling state and then analyze the forces between the ground and the crawler, forces between crawler and driving wheel, forces between tension wheel and the guide wheel and forces between soil and the farm tools in static, farming,single side brake steering conditions,finally this paper give the theoretical formula of each force.Then,this paper use ABAQUS to simplify the model of chassis traveling system,then to define material properties,element types,mesh and other pre-processing works,finally uses ABAQUS to have a finite element analysis for chassis traveling system in static, farming, single side brake steering and climbing conditions.Finally,because the maximum stress of chassis traveling system is small and material stiffness is surplus,so this paper have a lightweight design for the chassis traveling system which define crawler’s traveling device and the frame as the optimization areas, then this paper reduce the thickness of shell element directly in crawler ‘s traveling device and have a sizing optimization for the chassis frame.After the sizing optimization, the chassis traveling system still has room for further optimization, so this paper choose the minimum thickness as the optimization area’s sizes based on the regulation of the actual steel,finally this paper have a finite element analysis for chassis traveling system again, the final result shows that the chassis traveling system can meet the strength requirements,the quality of whole chassis traveling system is reduced by 8.3%, achieves a certain lightweight result.
