Desertification is a worldwide ecological and environmental problems, and more, the 1/3 world’s land area were desertification referring to the United Nations Environment Programme statistics. Minqin County is the larger national desertif ication area, and all kinds of desert and desertified land area of 1.52 million hm2 accounting for the county’s land area 94.51%, and it is located in the Badain Jaran Desert and Tengger Desert nip zone. The desertification in this region has had a major impact on the Lanzhou central Gansu, Inner Mongolia, the Hetao Pl ain and the whole quality of the environment in North China, which made Minqing country has become one of the major source of sandstorms in China, and those have played more attention by the government and whole society. Based on above mentioned, three experiments were carried out in Minqin county to monitor and assess the benefit of desertification grassland restoration. The following indexes were determined that grassland species community composition, structural features of plant diversity and economic traits, and soil physical and chemical properties before and after grassland desertification of; and also including economic, ecological and social benef its. The results as following shown that:1. Since 2007, Minqin County had implemented a comprehensive grassland desertification control projects which involved 18 towns, 57 000 families, 23.6478 million people, and a total of 212.89 million yuan investment. The achievements included that fence 850 acres(275 acres for no grazing fences, and 435 acres for resting grazing fence, 140 acres for rotational grazing fences); reseeding land 180.6 acres; artificial turf 12 acres.2. After grassland restored, the plant communities is high-value annual herb forage, andsubdominant community is canister timber forage; The perennial weeds are dominant andshrubs for main associated community in desertification grassland. The Pielou index wereincreased by 0.88 to 0.9 with desertification control, which implied that experimental treatmentsreduced plant abundance and diversity, but improved the uniformity of the communityGrassland Desertification in Minqin County; The community similar ity coefficient was 0.22,which showed very great dissimilar species replacement rate.With increasing soil moisture and increase soil depth around.3. Soil temperature was decreased with increasing soil depth, For 0-10 cm and 10-30 cm layer soil, soil temperature is higher, but soil bulk density was less before treatment than after treatment. However, soil pH was close to neutral before treatment, but it was slightly acidic after treatment.4. Before treatment for desertification grassland, soil organic matter was decreased with increasing soil depth, but it was different after treatment. Soil total nitrogen and available nitrogen showed a gradual downward trend with increasing soil depth. The changing trends for soil phosphorus were consistent with organic matter before and after treatment. The available K of treatment before was increased with increasing soil depth, but it was different for its of treatment after. In the 0-10 cm soil, it was 4.3, 2.6 fold that the SOCD and TND of treatment after than before, respectively. Therefore, in the 10-30 cm soil, it was 6.6, 5.4 fold that the SOCD and TND of treatment after than before, respectively.5. After grassland reseeding improved, the hay yield was added 48.91g/m2, and soil carbon stocks were increased 6.9 g/ m2 in the treated grassland; Carbon stocks increased can be used for carbon trading in Minqin County, which was benefit to increase certain income and environment protect; The added root system of plants could be maintained soil fertility to make better plant growth.In summary, through reseeding and optimization for animal husbandry management in Minqin County, the desertification grassland has been effectively restored, and vegetation and soil systems have been greatly improved. Especially, it was very considerable for economic, social and ecological benefits.
