Abstract/Summary:
The research was designed to determine the effects of selenite in diets with Cont, L (0.5 mg/kg Se added), M (1.0 mg/kg Se added), H (1.5 mg/kg Se added) which there were 864 pairs the white king pigeons in each group on the reproduction performance of the parents pigeon, growth performance of the squab, selenium content in tissues, antioxidant function in tissues and the expression of genes related to Se and the production performance of meat pigeon by using Atomic fluorescence spectrometry, TBA, RT-PCR and other technologies in order to evaluating the effects of different levels of selenite on improving production performance and health impact on the white king pigeon and providing a reliable theoretical basis for selenium supplement in pigeon. The results of the experiment showed that:(1) The dietary of selenium made the production performance of the parents pigeon better, and significantly increased the fertilization rate, hatching rate (P< 0.05) and significantly decreased the dead sperm rate (P< 0.05), the best improvement especially in M (1.0 mg/kg Se). The dietary of selenium significantly increased the body weight of squab in 21 days old (P< 0.05). on the contrary, it was not significant to the body weight of squab in 0,7 and 14 days old (P>0.05).(2) The dietary of selenium significantly increased the content of selenium in eggs, chest muscle and leg muscle in parents pigeon and chest muscle and leg muscle in squab (P< 0.05), and the Se content in these tissues was increased with the increasing of Se level. Selenium enzymantic activity of GSH-PX in plasma, liver and muscle tissues of breeders was increased with different degree (P< 0.05), meanwhile, the supplement of selenium significantly increased the activity of SOD in plasma (P< 0.05), and significantly decreased the content of MDA in plasma (P< 0.05). Morethan, the effects of selenium on the activity of SOD and the content of MDA in liver, chest muscle and leg muscle was not significant (P> 0.05).(3) The supplement of selenium made GPx4 gene expression significantly improvement in hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal of parents pigeon and the gonadal of squab especially in the liver and testis of pigeon (P< 0.05), and the GPX4 gene expression was relatively stable in hypothalamus, pituitary and chest muscle of squab (P> 0.05), which was not changed by the addition of selenite. That supplement of selenium in L group and M group increased the expression of BMP 15 in ovarian, in which was not significant (P> 0.05). On the contrary, the expression of BMP 15 was down regulated in H group (P< 0.05). These were some effects on hypothalamus, pituitary and testis, but they were not influenced by the supplement of selenite (P> 0.05). The dietary of selenium did not impact the expression of GH on gonad, hypothalamus and breast muscle in squab (P> 0.05), however, it significantly increased the expression of GH of pituitary of squab (P< 0.05) and significantly decreased the expression of GH of pituitary of squab (P< 0.05).
