Liriodendron sino-americanum is an artificial hybrid species, which was crossed from Liriodendron chinense Sarg and Liriodendron tulipifera. L. It has been proved to possess an obvious heterosis and was an excellent species for timber harvest and garden planting. In this study, the growth performance of twenty L. sino-americanum clones, which were planted in Nanning, Guangxi province 5 years before, were evaluated. The genetic diversity detection and clonal fingerprints were completed by SSR molecular markers. Finally, the comprehensive clonal archives were set up through combining phenotypic traits with clonal fingerprints. It will be an important reference and guidance for subsequent application of all tested clones. The main results were as follows:(1) The ANOVA results showed that 13 of 15 traits were extremely significant difference (P<0.01)among clones. The ranges of various characters, genetic variation coefficient and repeatability were 10.6%-109.59%,2.55%-24.10%and 0.1373-0.1373, respectively. That showed the genetic variation between clones was relatively abundant, and the traits tested was strongly under thegenetic control.(2) With the aim for timber cultivation, principal component analysis and comprehensive index evaluation were carried out for clone selection. The preferred clones were No.7,13,20,9 and 5. The average genetic gain of five selected clones on diameter, height, volume, diameter of biggest branch, bark thickness and stem straightness were 19.51%,17.21%,42.22%,2.05%,4.09% and 4.09%, respectively.(3) 27 markers were selected from 157 candidates for high polymorphism, clear band and repeatability to analyze genetic diversity. The selected markers were 002,015,020,037,046,056,057,058,060,061,068,071, 072,073,078,081,096,113,121,123,125,127,140,161,173, LT3 and LT21. Multi-locus analysis for all 20 clones totally detected 106 alleles. The average observed heterozygosity (ObsJHet) was 0.5628, range from Oto 0.9545, the average expected heterozygosity (Exp_Het) was 0.6260, range from 0.4194 to 0.7410, and the mean of Nei’s diversity index was 0.6223, range from0.4169to0.4169.(4) 27 markers were utilized for fingerprints construction, whilst the 002, 015,056,113,056 and LT21 were as a specific marker set to identify 20 clones. A total of 12 clones (No.1,3,7,8,9,10,11,12,14,15,18,19,20) have their own specific bands.(5) Analysis of the combined with phenotype growing and fingerprints of 20 L.sino-americanum clones,we found that the clones could be divied into two categories. The category one was consist of clone number 2,11,20,9,12,3,5,17 and 19, the category one showed excellent timber species property; The other category was consist of clone number 14,15,16,18,1,6,17,4 and 8,and showed poorer nature of timber species property.
