The rice planthopper such as brown planthopper Nilaparvata lugens(St a 1) and the white-backed planthopper Sogatella furcifera (Horvath)(Homoptera:Delphacidae) are major pests of rice in China. The migrations of the rice planthopper from Southeast Asia to China has been proved. From Green Revolution, the introduce of new rice varieties, the spread of irrigational systems and the improvement of chemical fertilizer in Indochina Peninsula had resulted in the enhancement of rice planting area and the transformation of rice cropping patterns. As the same time, the break of rice planthopper in Yunnan province in China was worse than before. Of course, rice as the major food of rice planthopper, the transformation of rice cropping patterns has an important impact on the base volume of rice planthopper. Therefore, it is urgent to acquire the transformation of rice cropping patterns and detect the relationship between the variety of rice cropping patterns and the break of rice planthopper in Yunnan.We acquired the transformation of rice cropping patterns from 1980s to 2012 using LTDR data at first, then analyzed the relationship between it and rice planthopper in Yunnan. According to the results, on the one hand, single rice area and double rice area in Thailand show a decrease until 1991. Single rice area in Vietnam shows a decrease but double rice area and triple rice area have an increase. On the other hand, the area of all the rice cropping patterns has an obvious increase in Cambodia and Myanmar. After acquiring the variety trend of rice cropping patterns, we used the rice area and the beginning occurrence stage of rice planthopper to do correlation analysis. As the result shown, there is a significant negative correlation between multiple rice area and the beginning occurrence stage of rice planthopper. Correlation coefficient of double rice area and triple rice area are-0.778,-0.812, respectively. It demonstrated that the transformation from single rice cropping pattern to multiple cropping pattern has a significant impact on shifting to an earlier date of the beginning occurrence stage of rice planthopper in Yunnan province. It has provided an essential information for the control of the break of rice planthopper in Yunnan effectively.
