The resource of the world’s arable land is facing serious test with the land resource decrease and population explosion. Coupled with the lack of available water resources, the attention is gradually transferred to vast desert, beaches and other non-cultivated land. Our country is one of the serious desertification in the world, and the desertification area is about 1.743 million square kilometers, accounting for 18.2% of the whole territory, which is greater than the sum of the cultivated land. It has a certain practical significance for people’s life,if we develop and use the desertification to make it into arable land.As a key precursor substance to 5-aminolevulinic acid(ALA) is synthesized by all the porphyrin compound, and it is common in higher plants and animals. It could be as herbicides under high concentration, and raise productivity under low concentrations, so it is regarded as a new kind of regulating substances for plant growth. In recent years there were certain research reports about ALA,which indicated ALA could improve crop cold resistance, drought resistance, salt resistance and so on, but it had not been studied that the use effect of ALA to horticultural crops in desertification. So this experiment of ALA and foliar fertilizer spraying the tomato and pepper of protected horticulture in the desert was researched to explore the effects of ALA and foliar fertilizer on the growth, yield, quality and so on of the tomato and pepper of protected horticulture in the desert,so as to provide foundation for the promotion and application of 5-aminolevulinic acid in the desert and that provide references for the cultivation of horticultural crops in non-arable land. The experiment using tomato and pepper as the experimental material was designed three processing, water, foliar fertilizer, and ALA in the agricultural demonstration garden in shenmu county in yulin city,to evaluate the effects of exogenous 5-aminolevulinic acid and foliar fertilizer to the yield improvement of the tomato and pepper in the desert. The experiment showed that compared with control the plant height, stem diameter, leaf number and crown diameter of the tomato by ALA were increased by 15.45%,8.33%,13.69%和8.58%,the leaf number of the pepper was increased by 22.79%;the flowering period and fruit bearing period of the tomato were one day in advance and a delay, the flowering period and fruit bearing period of the pepper were two days in advance and delay; ratio of TSS to total acid of the tomato by ALA were increased by 8.86%,soluble solid content of pepper by ALA were increased by 8.59%;the POD activity of the tomato increased greatly by 65.70%,the CAT activity of the pepper increased by 35.5%. In conclusion,5-aminolevulinic acid and foliar fertilizer could promote the growth of tomato and pepper, improve the quality and the yield and economic benefit, increase the antioxidant enzyme activity in the desert.
