The physical properties, chemical properties and application properties for being used as matrix to planting golf lawn to reduce its construction costs of the research material Mountain sand No.l and Mountain sand No.2 which is Widely distributed in Changsha, with reference to the USGA Fairway with sand (River sand) standards, were analyzed comprehensively, finally we obtain the following results:1. Detected by the physical properties of sand, we found that:Mountain sand contain more coarse particle, belong to the coarse sand while the river sand belongs to medium sand. The fineness modulus of the mountain sand No.1 and No.2 is higher which are respectively 3.2 and 3.1 while the river sand is 2.6. Affected by particle characteristics, the apparent density and bulk density of the two kinds of mountain sand are smaller than the river sand. The mountain sand had a higher porosity but much more mud content than the river sand, so the permeability of the river sand is higher than the mountain sand when in the 30cm depth. These three kinds of sand are in line with the standards of the USGA fairway sand that the permeability is of> 15cm/h and the porosity is in (35%-55%). The diameter within the range of 1-2mm accounted the proportion of the mountain sand No.l and No.2 were 35.6% and 40.7%, it is difficult to reach the standards that accounting more than 60% of the total. In order to meet the requirement, they need to be crushed, screened or washed and other treatment. From the comparison of the physical properties of the overall point of view, these three kinds of sand are vary from each other, but little impact.2. The chemical properties test results show that:The mountain sand No.l pH is 5.71, the mountain sand No.2 pH is 5.64, the river sand pH is 6.6, they are both in the normal range of the majority of lawn grasses prefer slightly acidic-neutral soil conditions (pH 5.5-7.0). The EC25 value of mountain sand No.l, mountain sand No.2 and river sand are 1.03, 1.1 and 0.56mS/cm, these two kinds of mountain sand is very close, and nearly twice of the river sand. The water-soluble salt content of mountain sand No.l, mountain sand No.2 and river sand are 0.04%,0.04% and 0.01%, the two kind of mountain sand are higher than river sand. There is no bad influence to the growth of the lawn When the soil water-soluble salt content <0.2 to 0.3 percent, the water-soluble salt content of the two kinds of mountain sand and river sand were not exceeded. Therefore, these two kinds of mountain sand are in line with the requirements of the chemical nature.3. Mountain sand No.l, mountain sand No.2 and river sand were used as substrate, reference USGA fairway construction standards planting Paspalum vaginatum cv. Sea Spray, the observing results showed us that:In the growth period aspects, the Paspalum vaginatum cv. Sea Spray lawn planted with river sand as substrate grow faster than mountain sand do, turning green an earlier time, turning yellow time later, the green period is longer, but had no effect on flowering and seed heading date, and the performance of mountain sand in each phenophase No.l is the same as mountain sand No.2. In the external morphology and biomass aspects, there is no significant difference from these three sand after observed the results. In the turf traits aspects, the Paspalum vaginatum cv. Sea Spray lawn planted with these three kinds of sand are evaluated as excellent. On the whole, mountain sand can substitute for the golf course fairway turf grass planting matrix sand, among them, the mountain sand No.1 which has less mud content than the mountain sand No.2 is more suitable for the fairway sand.
