In recent years, Gerbera (Gerbera jamesonii) is loved by more and more people, It has become the world’s fifth-loved cut flowers. But its preservation is difficult because of stem bending and wilting. Therefore it is important for us to develop the postharvest technics to to postpone the vase life and quality of Gerbera cut flowers. We attempted the field application of chemicals, different preservative solution and different storage methods to improve the quality of Gerbera cultivar’s187’. The main findings are as follows:(1) Using 50,100,200 μmol/L SA and 100,200,400μmol/L TDZ field spraying, compared to control group yield, the flower buds were increased by 47,38 by SA (200), TDZ (200) treatment, showing an increase of 9.0%,7.3% that of the control. There is no significant difference between different treatments and control at P=0.05%level. SA (100), TDZ (100) didn’t obviously extended the vase life, where the vase life of the control was 6.3 days, compared with the control, TDZ (100) extended the vase life by 1.8 days with an increase of 28.6% that of the control, SA (100) extended the vase life by 1.1 days with an increase of 17.5% that of the control. There is no significant difference between different treatments in term of the vase life of at the 0.05% level.(2) SA (50,100,200 μmol/L), TDZ (100,200,400 μmol/L), Nisin (25,50,100 mg/ L), Sucrose (12.5,25,50,75, 100g/L), Cobalt chloride (250,500,1000μmol/L) was tested for their effects on the vase life. The results showed that SA (100μmol/L), TDZ (100μmol/L), Nisin (50mg/L), Sucrose (25g/L), Cobalt chloride (500μmol/L), and Nano-silver (5mg/L) can improved the vase life. The vase life of control was 5.7d, the longest vase life of 16.9d was observed in cobalt chloride treatment, which extend the vase life by 11.2d; similarly, the vase life of Nano-silver, TDZ treatments were 13.6,12.3 d, with an extension of vase life by 7.9d and 6.6d, respectively. Cobalt chloride and nano silver would not reach negative water balance value time until 10, and 8 days later than the control group.(3) Cut gerbera was dry store for 2,4,6 d, and wet stored for 2,4,6,8 d, respectively, at 4℃. The storage effects on the vase life, flower diameter rate of change, fresh weight change, and water balance values were detected. The best quality was observed in 2d dry storage and 2d wet storage. Vase life of the control group was 6.1d, while that of 2 days wet storage or dry storage days were 9.3d,10.5d, with an extension of 3.2d,4.4d of the control. The effects of 2,4 d wet storage and 2,4,6-d dry storage treatment on the vase life were significant compared with the control at 0.05%level. Vase life of 6d-wet storage,8-d dry storage were 6.0,5.7 d, which was slightly less than that of the control group (6.1d).It suggested that duration of wet storage and dry storage can be six days and eight days respectively.
