The dwarf plants have played an important role in improving fruit quality and reducing the production cost. In this study, loquat lines with varying dwarf characteristics bred by the research team of SAU were used as the test materials, and the physiological and biochemical indexes were studied to evaluate dwarf germplasm, screen simple and effective early primary index and lay a foundation for the dwarf cultivation in loquat production. The main results were as follows.(1) The dwarf lines were different from other materials in the annual shoot growth rate, shoot thickness and bark rate. There was a significantly negative correlation between annual shoot diamiter, bark rate and total growth.(2) The leaf palisade tissue thickness of the selected plants was generally greater than the sponge tissue thickness. Percentage of palisade tissue thickness in total leaf thickness, the rate of palisade and sponge tissue had significantly negative correlation with the annual shoot growth. Sponge tissue thickness percentage of leaf thickness, leaf stomata density were positively correlated with total annual branch growth.(3) Leaf POD, SOD and IOD enzyme activities were negativly correlated with total annual branch growth. POD, SOD and IOD activities all had significant effects on tree growth potential.(4) Resistance of branches, leaf thickness, thickness of upper and lower epidermis of leaves, the rate of skin, rate of palisade and sponge tissue, POD, SOD and IOD activities can be used as the main index in the early identification of dwarf germplasm in loquat.(5) According to the various parameters and comprehensive assessment, al was identified as a promising dwarf line in loquat.
