The test used HZCP-39 cowpea varieties of laboratory as materials, studying different irrigation maximums and irrigation minimums effect on physiology, yield and quality of cowpea by drip irrigation methods. This test is divided into two parts.1. Taking 50% field capacity as the irrigation minimums, and studying four kinds of different irrigation maximums (T90,90%; T80,80%; T70,70%; T60,60%) effect on physiology, yield and quality of cowpea. The results showed that, with the reduction of the irrigation maximum, the stem diameter and number of branches increased at first and then decreased. The photosynthesis rate was lowest in 60% treatment, stomatal conductance decreased gradually with the decrease of irrigation maximums, while intercellular CO2 concentration was highest in the 70% treatment. Catalase increased gradually with the decrease of irrigation maximums, peroxidase was higher in the 60% treatment. Moisture content was higher in the 80%,70% treatment, and cellulose content of 80% treatment was lower, while protein content increased firstly and then reduced. the decreased firstly and then increased. The flower number was higher in the 80% and 70% treatment, podding rate was lower in the 60% treatment, had significant differences. The highest yield were obtained in 80% treatment, irrigation quantity decreased while the water use efficiency increased gradually with the decrease of irrigation maximums. So 80% irrigation maximum was suitable for cowpea.2. Taking 90% field capacity as the irrigation maximums, and studying four kinds of different irrigation minimums (T70,70%; T60,60%; T50,50%; T40,40%) effecting on physiology, yield and quality of cowpea. The results showed that the stem diameter and number of branches were highest in the 70% treatment. The photosynthesis rate was higher in the 60%,50% treatment, the stomatal conductance and intercellular CO2 raised firstly and then decreased with irrigation minimums reduced. The malonaldehyde bisldiethy and proline were higher in the 70% treatment. The peroxidase increased gradually, while the superoxide dismutase and catalase reduced firstly and then raised with irrigation minimums reduced. The flower number and podding rate were higher in the 60%、50% treatment.Irrigation quantity increased while water use efficiency decreased gradually, the yield raised firstly and then reduced. So,60% were the suitable irrigation minimums for the cowpea.
