In recent years, plant extraction has been extensively investiga ted. The initial application is because of its distinctive odor, which can promote animals’ secretion of saliva and digestive juices. So the feed intake can be increased. Later, the researchers found that the chemical active substance of the plant extraction can help to ensure the healthy intestinal flora, improve resistance to diseases, and promote animal growth performance. With the recent emphasis on food safety and the development of poultry industry, reasonable choice and the correct use of the plant extraction become more important. This study was aimed to verify how to apply plant extraction in broiler and laying hens. The plant extraction used in this research(BIOSTRONG 510, abbreviated as BSG), includes plant essential oils(Peppermint essential oil, cinnamon oil), plant bitter substances(wormwood), pungent substance capsaicin, garlic and so on. The results showed that in certain extent BSG promoted the broiler growth performance, improved intestinal health, digestion and absorption capacity. BSG a lso improved the antioxidant capacity of broilers and increased profitability. The effect of BSG on laying hens’ performance was also investigated. The results showed that a short time of including BSG in the diet significantly reduced feed intake(reduced by 13.2%), reduced feed loss and saved feed costs. But the long-term addition of BSG could reduce the egg’s haugh units, eggshell thickness, eggshell hardness, albumen height and yolk color, which indicated its negative effect on egg quality and grading. Our research provided fundamental data on the practical application of plant extraction in broiler and laying hens’ production.
