Xinjiang grassland area accounts for about 1/5 of the grassland area in China, which is an important part of the xinjiang ecological environment and is the basis for the development of farming and animal husbandry in this area.Grassland soil bulk density, soil-stone ratio and soil thickness is reflected appraisal important indicators of soil quality and the material resource reserves.Understand soil-stone, soil bulk density and thickness and its influencing factors contribute to sustainable development of grassland resource in the arid zone of northwest China management and the prevention and control of desertification, and provide basic data support for xinjiang grassland.The survey of soil properties, including soil bulk density, soil-stone ratio,soil depth etc.through 577 typical soil profile sample points.analysis and compare the difference of soil properties according to the grassland types, soil types, and the national soil and water conservation,discuss the affection of terrain curvature(elevation,slope,aspect,plan curvature,profile curvature),dryness, vegetation coverage on earth-rock than grass, soil bulk density, soil thickness.The results show that:(1) With the increase of the depth the soil bulk density has a tendency to increase.The change of vertical soil bulk density in different grassland types are different, the soil bulk density of temperate steppe-desert type,temperate steppe type,temperate desert-steppe type,temperate desert type with the increase of depth is not obvious, the correlation among grassland soil bulk density climate, vegetation and soil properties is good,the difference among different soil types of bulk density is large,the bulk density of soil type and climate, vegetation have good correlation.(2) The difference of soil-stone ratio in different grassland types is bigger,soil-stone ratio of meadow type is small.And terrain factors have a certain influence on soil-stone ratio,but is mainly affected by the climate, vegetation and soil properties.(3) The average soil depth of grassland in Xinjiang is low.60.3% soil depth of samplesis below 100 cm.Soil depth is often low when the slope was lager than 15°, or the altitude wasbetween 1000 m to 1500 m.All correlation relationships between terrain attributes and soil depth were not significant.(4) The difference of soil depth between different grassland types and different soil types is significant,which shows that the difference of soil development level between different grassland types and different soil types is big,different grassland types and vegetation coverage, soil thickness climate have good correlation,but the correlation among soil depth of different soil types,topography, climate, vegetation coverage, and soil properties is poor overall.
