With the rapid development of China’s national economy and social progress, the industry of understory economics in the south of China has been flourishing. In recent years, China’s grass production demand is increasing year by year, but grass industry is far from the desired level, it can not meet the market demand, resulting in actual products are smaller than the market demand, we need import grass productions from abroad. Especially in southern China, forage planting are more dispersed and there are less forage processing equipments, large-scale production is difficult to achieve, so most of the forage materials are not effectively utilized. This paper was combined with the project of the State Forestry Public Welfare Industry Special Research "The key technology research on the development and utilization for the understory forage in the south of China (No.201204610)" and the key project of Hunan Provincial Department of Science and Technology "The development and application research of briquetting machine for understory forage plants in the southern (No.2014NK2005)", Based on the understory forage plants processing technology, product quality aspects of identification techniques, forage briquetting process rheological studies, animal feeding formulas, etc., this paper carried out a systematic study to provide a strong theoretical basis and experimental support for the southern grass industry, this research has important scientific value and application prospects. The main works and innovations in this paper are as follows:Firstly, the southern understory forage plants pressing process has been studied, which includes the drying process, briquetting parameters, experimental and analysis of grass block storage methods. The experiments showed that when using 100℃ drying chamber method to dry the grass, it had the fastest drying rate, and compressed stem could result in the best quality hay, we also obtained the optimal parameters for briquetting, and the vacuum storage worked best from all the storage methods. At the same time, we can use the microwave oven method instead of drying baker method to measure forage moisture content, we can also combine a variety of drying methods to dry the forage, the crushed forage can significantly increase the density and improve the product taste.Secondly, six different southern understory forage plants nutrients were measured, including plants nutrients before and after briquetting and grass blocks storage for six months. Studies showed that the southern understory forage plants nutrients before and after briquetting changed little, but after storage for six months, their nutritional ingredients decreased, the nutritional value for the six kind of forage plants showed:clover> sweet potato vine> corn straw> ryegrass> sudan grass> bahia grass. On this basis, we developed 24 animal concentrate feeding formulas and 6 coarse fodder formulas for cattle and sheep, and one enterprise standard was approved, too.Thirdly, this paper studied the creep process of sweet potato vine and bahia grass under different briquetting pressure and different briquetting temperatures, their creep curves showed that the rheological model named [M]|[N] could fit the creep process suitably, using Origin7.5 software to fit the creep processes, all of the coefficient of determination were bigger then 0.95, we also got the compressive creep constitutive equations for sweet potato vine and bahia grass under different briquetting pressure and different briquetting temperatures.Finally, this paper discussed the equivalence of the creep experiments and relaxation ones, and then got the relaxation curves in a certain strain conditions for the sweet potato vine and Bahia grass from their creep curves on different briquetting pressure.The results are benefit for the development of southern forest economy. It can help famers to select grass species, to select rheological pressing technologies for forage block. It can also be beneficial from this paper in measuring and analyzing the nutritional ingredients and studying animal feeding formulas, etc., so the results have obvious values on both of social and economic, and broad development and application prospect.
