The concerned with horse is increasing nowadays, such as the infectious diseases like horse strangles which has serious influences on the growth and development of horses or the internal diseases like acute abdominal disease which causes life-threat for imported high-quality horses. Therefore, this research aims to formulate an effective treatment for the horse strangles and acute abdominal disease and provide informations of clinical basis through the analysis of clinical medical records of the horses from March2013 to March 2015 at one horse ranch, Zhaosu county, Yili, Xinjiang province. The analysis in this research includes clinical symptom diagnosis, rectal examination and laboratory hematology analysis, and the samples are made of 34 cases of acute abdominal disease and 76 cases of horses strangles. The treatments for acute abdominal pain consist of traditional Chinese medicine, western medicine and the combination of Chinese and western treatment. The total number is 34, among which 31 cases end up with the successful treatment and 3 cases do not. The cure rate reached up to 91.2%. The incidence of equine strangles is 49%, with the infant horse of 98.6% and adult of 1.4%. The application of traditional Chinese medicine, western medicine and combined treatment led to a cure rate of 94.7% and death rate 5.3%, including 35 cases of one time cure type, 27 cases of typicality, 14 cases of bad type and 4cases of secondary sepsis death.Hematology test results show that:(1) after using western medicine treatment for horse strangles, the number of white blood cells and red blood cells, hematokrit(HCT), lymphocyte number(LYM) and changes of hemoglobin index are back to the normal range(P<0.01); Biochemical determination shows that albumin increases(P<0.01), and aspartatea mino transferase(AST) elevates(P<0.05); The TNF-α average number has a change in the serum test while IL-6 does not have an obvious change. After applying Traditional Chinese medicine for horse strangles, the white blood cell number and hemoglobin content reduce to normal level(P<0.05), and the average number of red blood cells as well as the granulocyte count has more obvious changes(P<0.01). The average number of haemoglobin concentration and hematokrit(HCT) increases after the use of medicine. Besides, blood sugar(P<0.01) and albumin significantly elevate to the normal range(P<0.05) while triglycerides, direct bilirubin, aspartate amino transferase(AST) and alkaline phosphatase decrease after the use of medicine(P<0.05). The average number of TNF-a decreases(P<0.01)while the serum IL-6 becomes lower but with no obvious difference. Hematokrit(HCT) in the acute abdominal disease significantly drops after application of western medicine and haemoglobin concentration levels to the normal value(P<0.05) after combined treatment. Total protein(TP) decreases(P<0.05) and the change of sodium ion(Na+) average drops significantly(P<0.01) with the decreasing average of TNF-α and IL-6(P>0.05).The application of traditional Chinese medicine has a better effect than western medicine in treatment of horse strangles while combined treatment is better in treatment of acute abdominal disease. This result provides basic informations for the treatment and prevision of horse strangles and acute abdominal disease in the future.
