Clerodendranthus spicatus (Thunb.) C.Y.Wu belongs to Lamiaceae Clerodendranthus, which is knows as cat whiskers herb. About5species of Clerodendranthus grows worldwide, mainly in tropical areas. In our country, its resources remain uncertain currently. In this study, morphological markers and ISSR molecular markers were used to investigate genetic characteristics of87samples of Clerodendranthus and relationships between them. It also provided theoretical basis for germplasm identification. The conclusions are as follows:(1) The morphologies of Hainan wild species were systematically described in the study, especially the unique characteristics of leaf shape and glandular hair for the first time, which were significantly different from the introduced ones.(2) Morphologic clustering analysis on a total of87samples showed that the genetic distance ranged from1.00to9.98. All the samples were divided into two main groups in the scale of27.47,81wild species from Hainan in one group and6introduced species from Hainan, Guangxi, and Yuan in the other one.(3) The cluster analysis of ISSR molecular markers showed that the materials were clustered into two groups when the genetic similarity coefficient was0.66. The first group included81wild species from Hainan with genetic similarity coefficient between0.56and0.95; the other one contained6introduced species with genetic similarity coefficient between0.88and0.98. The close genetic relationship illustrated little relevancy between genetic diversity and region. It obviously highlighted genetic diversity between the wild species and introduced ones, also revealed the provenance characteristics of Hainan wild C.spicatus.(4) The cluster analysis of morphological markers and ISSR markers were consistent.
