Forest ecosystem is a huge carbon pool, playing an important role in regulating the atmosphericCO2. Soil is an important part of the forest carbon sinks, the majority of organic carbon storing in soilunder forest. So, a slight variation in the soil carbon pool could have important influence on the globalcarbon cycle.On the basis of field survey and indoor experiment analysis, this article mainly analysis theBetula platyphylla natural secondary forest soil organic carbon and its vertical distribution of soil profilein four representative areas in Yangebai Weichang county, Mengluan Weichang county, SichakouFengning county and Heilongshan Chicheng county of north Hebei, then contrasting Betula platyphyllanatural secondary forest and corresponding areas typical forest types of soil carbon storage capacity, InYangebai Weichang county, control stands includes Larix olgensis plantation, Poplar plantation, Pinussylvestris var.mongolica and Quercus mongolica natural secondary forest; In Mengluan Weichangcounty, control stands includes Larix olgensis plantation; In Sichakou Fengning county, control standsincludes Chinese pine plantation; In Heilongshan Chicheng county, control stands includes Larixolgensis plantation and Quercus mongolica natural secondary forest. In addition, this paper also studiesthe soil organic carbon of Betula platyphylla natural secondary forest and Poplar natural secondaryforest, Poplar-Betula platyphylla natural secondary forest in north Hebei.the conclusion mainly includesthe following aspects:(1) In the soil profile, the each layer of soil organic carbon content is roughly show a changetendency:Heilongshan Chicheng county﹥Mengluan Weichang county﹥Sichakou Fengning county﹥Yangebai Weichang county. In general, Heilongshan Chicheng county forest field of soil organic carboncontent is significantly higher than the other three areas, the rule in surface layer which greatlyinfluenced by the ground vegetation is more apparent.(2) The Betula platyphylla natural secondary forest soil organic carbon density in HeilongshanChicheng county exceed than the rest of other three regions, the difference is mainly reflected in the0cm-10cm layer and30cm-50cm layer. Difference between bulk density lead to soil organic carbondensity do not agree with carbon content in four research areas.(3) The soil organic carbon content of Betula platyphylla natural secondary forest in different soildepth were significantly below that of Poplar-Betula platyphylla natural secondary forest, but onsignificant difference compared with Poplar natural secondary forest, this rule is not confined to the soilsurface, but all levels in the soil. (4) The soil organic carbon content of Betula platyphylla natural secondary forest in four areasshow the same pattern in distribution of soil profile: with the increase of soil depth, soil organic carboncontent showed a trend of gradually decreasing, and soil organic carbon content decreased faster inshallow, and with the increase of depth, the pace of decline gradually eased. Distribution of soil organiccarbon content about Betula platyphylla natural secondary forest has a strong cohesion.so, we shouldreduce human disturbance.(5)The carbon deposits of Betula platyphylla natural secondary forest have strong competitivenesscompared with other typical community types in four regions corresponding of north Hebei. The soilorganic carbon content and carbon density of Betula platyphylla natural secondary forest, Larix-olgensis plantation, Quercus mongolica natural secondary forest were significantly higher than that ofPoplar plantation and Pinus sylvestris var.mongolica plantation in Yangebai Weichang county; The soilorganic carbon content and carbon density of Betula platyphylla natural secondary forest and Larixolgensis plantation had no significant difference in Mengluan Weichang county; The soil organic carboncontent and carbon density of Betula platyphylla natural secondary forest were significantly higher thanChinese pine plantation in Sichakou Fengning county, The forest soil organic carbon content and carbondensity of Betula platyphylla natural secondary forest, Larix olgensis plantation, Quercus mongolicanatural secondary forest had no significant difference in Heilongshan Chicheng county.
