Lectin is a large protein family, which plays an important role in defense signaling in plants. But functions of many genes of the family are still not well understood. In this study we cloned a TaJRL2gene of jacalin-related lectin family in wheat. TaJRL2has only one jacalin domain, and shares very low homology with other JRL genes, while it has conservative motifs of jacalin domain. Semi-quantitative RT-PCR revealed that the expression of TaJRL2was very high in spike. The results of real-time PCR revealed that jasmonate acid (JA) could induce the expression of TaJRL2, salicylic acid (SA) inhibited the expression of TaJRL2. The expression of TaJRL2was up-regulated significantly in resistant variety Wangshuibai after inoculated by fusarium grminearum, while the phenomenon didn’t appeare in susceptible variety Mianyang87-19. Silencing of TaJRL2in Wangshuibai by using virus-induced gene silencing (VIGS), and resistance of Fusarium head blight (FHB) reduced remarkably. Silencing of TaJRL2in T. diococcoides accession20-11, while resistance of powdery mildew was no difference. We think that the resistance of TaJRL2to FHB depends on JA signal pathway.
