‘Laoting white cucumber’ is the main local variety cultivated in winter solar greenhouse in Laoting, Hebei. A large degree of variability due to insufficient system selection has relinesed the development of cucumber industry. In this paper, based on characteristics of cucumber female flowers flower stalk length of genetic analysis and molecular markers, plant vigor, precocity, fruit yield and quality of ‘Laoting white cucumber’ were investigated. 54 superior individual were selected preliminarily, further lines comparison test, to obtain excellent lines. The main results were as follows.1. A joint analysis of six-generations from crossing a long pedicel inbred line ‘zjj’ with a short pedicel inbred line ‘9801’ was carried out to investigate the inheritance of the length of female flower pedicel. Results showed that the character of long pedicel was a quantitative character inheritance, parents that both are long pedicel should be chosen in breeding programs for cucumber with long pedicel. Based on the F2 population, 884 pairs of SSR markers were used to analysis the length of pedicel of female flower, and 8 primers were effective. Linkage analysis were carried out using Map Marker(Version 3.0) software, the results showed that SSR18648 was linked to the long pedicel of female flower, and the genetic distance was 18.1cM.2. Plant vigor, precocity, fruit yield and quality of ‘Laoting white cucumber’ were investigated in a solar greenhouse in spring. The results showed that the plants were less branching but the coefficient of variability(CV) of plant height and internode length was 33.7% and 20.9%, respectively. The first pistillate flower bearing node was concentrated 4~11. The number of female flower nodes within 20 nodes was concentrated from 2 to 4. The parthenocarpy was weak. The marketable fruit was club-shaped and the fruit length was concentrated at 20cm~25cm. The percentage of fruit with uniform basal color was 25.7%. The CV of pedicel length of female flowers was 45.0%. These data could be helpful for the selection of elite cucumber cultivars. In summary, 54 superior individuals were selected preliminarily, developing elite inbred lines and crossing F1 hybrid are the effective way of breeding.3. The comparison test of the 54 lines were carried out in the solar greenhouse in autumn. The results showed that hypocotyl with medium length(7.0cm~10.0cm) and internode length which was concentrated at 9.0cm~11.0cm were selected. 12 lines with the rate of the first flower node higher than 20 knot over 70%, 12 lines with the rate of zero female flower nodes within 20 nodes reached over 80%, 11 lines with the rate of short club-shaped reached over 50%, 9 lines with the rate of the color of the fruit, generally uneven, less than 10%, 6 lines with the rate of fruit with green streaks reached over 80%, and 11 lines with the rate of susceptible reached 50%. 9(no.1, 12, 23, 25, 28, 30, 35, 37 and 40) excellent lines were selected after eliminating these lines did not meet the target characters。...
