In order to improve the quality and the production benefit of tomato, based on different ways to limit the volume, combined with the measure of adding the matrix, use the Cherry Tomato "Bijiao" and large fruited tomato "E756" as the test species for planting in greenhouse and vinyl house. Using the single factor random block group testing, study on four different treatments on effects of growth characteristics, the change of soil nutrient, soil salt content, soil microorganism and enzyme activity, yield and quality of tomato.The results are as follows:1. The results showed that the effect of root restriction cultivation experiment on the growth and quality on cherry tomato:(1) Root restriction cultivation inhibited the plant height, stem diameter growth, increased the leaf area growth, the plant height and stem diameter value in treatment A1B1 (width 30 cm, depth 30 cm, length 8 m, and with matrix) is low; the photosynthetic indexes show that with the decrease of the root volume, the photosynthetic indexes were lower, and showed significant difference.(2) Root restriction cultivation inhibited Cherry tomato root absorption of nutrient elements in soil; The changes of root volume effects on the growth of the quantity of soil bacteria, fungi, actinomycetes, The rate of decomposition of organic compounds decreased by fungus, which leads to decrease the activity of soil enzyme activity, the decrease of root volume effect on soil dehydrogenase, urease and the protease activity. Total amount of microbes adding matrix can improve the root; By way of different volume limit, The smaller the root restriction, the accumulation of salt in the less, delay the harm of soil.(3) Root restriction cultivation improved the cherry tomato fruit quality, compared with normal planting that the total sugar content increased by 2.25%, the content of vitamin C was increased by 19.25 mg·kg-1FW, soluble solid content increased by 2.17%, the average per mu yield is 3908.20 kg, which added the matrix to improve the tomato fruit quality.(4) After the experiment, the treatment of A1B1 had a good fruit quality and yield were reduced, but also can achieve general production and demand, so the cultivation of volume 0.3 m×0.3 m×x m and treatment of adding medium for root restriction cultivation was the best combination.2. The results showed that the effect of root restriction cultivation experiment on the growth and quality on tomato:(1) Root restriction cultivation inhibited the growth of transverse, longitudinal, increased the leaf area, root volume decreased with the treatment of A1B1 (width 30 cm, depth 30 cm, length 8 m, and with matrix) of plant height, stem diameter growth was slow; diurnal variation of photosynthesis index of each treatment were appeared the peak at 11:00, then decreased significantly,3 indexes decreased with the decrease of the volume of root, the difference reached significant level.(2) Root restriction cultivation inhibited the absorption of tomato root on soil nutrients, in the whole growth of tomato, each treatments of different degree of inhibition on soil nutrients, the treatment of A1B1, compared with other treatments, the degree of inhibition was higher; Root restriction cultivation inhibited the number of soil microorganism, and soil enzyme activity, which leads to the decrease of soil the dehydrogenase, urease, protease activity.(3) Root restriction cultivation improved the quality of tomato fruit, the total sugar content increased by 0.93%, the content of vitamin C was increased by 4.72 mg·kg-1FW, soluble solid content increased by 0.63%, the average yield was 6430.53 kg, which add the matrix to improve the quality of tomato and significant effect.(4) The experiment showed that the cultivation of volume 0.3 m×0.3 m×x m and treatment of adding medium for root restriction cultivation was the best combination.
