Because of its high thermal efficiency and strong power performance, diesel engine has been widely used as the supporting power of agricultural machinery. More and more attention has been paid to the development and use of diesel engine. As the energy crisis and environmental pollution becomes critical and rules on energy saving and emission reduction have been published one after another, the development of diesel engine with high thermal efficiency and low emissions becomes the focus work. And there goes a deeper study on the heat distribution of diesel engine at the same time. The research on diesel engine’s thermal management is presented. The thermal management system of diesel engine is the integration of the cooling system, lubricating system, the intake and exhaust system, turbocharged inter-cooled system and EGR cooling system. It controls the diesel engine’s heat flux subsystem integration, so that the heat energy could be made use of reasonably to improve the thermal efficiency. Among these systems the cooling system is the core part of thermal management system. Generally traditional cooling system includes the radiator, cooling water pipe, thermostat, cooling water jacket, water pump, etc. Cooling fluid absorbs the heat of the engine and passes it into the atmosphere. This paper is written on the research of the Diesel Engine498. The study is focusing on the influence of the diesel engine cooling water’s temperature on diesel engine power, fuel consumption, emissions of smoke and CO, NO, NOx, etc. by constructing heat balance test bench of diesel engine. Following measurements are taken during the research. Regulate the engine outlet temperature by the engine cooling water temperature control device. The water temperature is raised from 55℃ to 95℃ by an adjusting temperature step of 10℃.Regulate engine speed from 1000 r/min to 2400 r/min with an adjusting speed step of 200 r/min. And load is started at 10% until the load is 100% with an adjusting of 10% load increase at a time. With the help of the test data collection, analysis of engine cooling water temperature’s influence on power, fuel consumption, emission to determine the optimum temperature of cooling water of the engine under various working conditions under different in engine speed and various load conditions. Through matching optimization of engine cooling system which is mainly about the parameter choices of pumps, fans, water tanks, make sure that the engine always runs in the best temperature range under different working conditions. Thus improve the engine power performance, economy and reliability and then improve the thermal efficiency of engine. This research collects the parameters affecting the engine heat utilization which provides empirical data for the optimal control of engine cooling water temperature in the future reference. In this paper, the main research work is as bellow:1. Building the engine thermal balance test bench; Installation of temperature sensor and pressure sensor, etc.2. Conducting the test of the heat balance bench test of the engine.3. Control the water temperature of the engine, adjust the engine speed and load, collected engine power, fuel consumption emissions and other performance under various conditions.4. Sorting and analyzing the gathered parameters of engine power, fuel consumption, emissions and other parameters; Sorting out the cooling water temperature of the engine under optimal operating state under different conditions; And studying the engine heat distribution under different load on the torque at different inlet water temperature.5. Optimize matching the engine cooling system, mainly about optimization design of parameters as water pump, fan, radiator, to satisfy the requirement of the engine operating under optimal cooling water temperature.6. Testing and checking on cooling system after optimization matching.
