Carbon Stock Dynamic Of Jiangle County

Forest was the subject of the terrestrial ecosystems and the largest contributor to the green space of the world. As a carbon sequestration and carbon source, forest plays important role in balancing CO2. This paper estimated the storage and density of carbon in the forest of Jiangle County, Fujian Province, based on survey results of forest resources in 2001 and 2011. The main results are as follows:(1) The forest coverage of Jiangle County was 180.98x103hm2. The carbon storage and carbon density were estimated to be 58.79×105MgC, and 47.30 MgC-hm-2, respectively. Timber forest had the highest carbon storage (30.62×105MgC) while protection forest had the highest carbon density (47.30 MgC·hm-2). The forest with hard broadleaf trees being the dominant tree species showewd the highest carbon storage and density, being 15.59×105MgC and 57.53 MgC·hm-2, respectively. Mature forest perserved the most carbon and near mature forest showed the highest carbon density. The artificial forest acreage,carbon stock and density were 130.89×103hm2、 32.02×105MgC and 24.46MgC·hm-2 respectively. The carbon storage and density of artificial forest were 32.02×105MgC and 24.46 MgC-hm-2 while those of natural forest were 11.38×105 MgC and 22.72 MgC·hm-2, respectively.(2) The area, carbon storage and carbon denstiy of the main forests in Jiangle County increaced by 4.97×103hm2,3.85×105MgC, and 1.32 MgC·hm-2 form 2001 to 2011, respectively. The carbon storage and carbon density were increased the most in timber forest while whereas those of hard broadleaf forest decreased.(3) Among the towns and villages of JIangle County, Huangtan town hag the most carbon storage (9.78×1O5 MgC) followed by Bailian town (9.36×105 MgC) and Gaotang town (8.06×105 MgC). The carbon density of the dominant tree spesies of all the towns decreased in the order of broadleaf forest>fir>pinus massoniana>bamboo.
