Land has always been the material foundation of human survival development. As a means of improving the efficiency of land use, land consolidation project is meaningful to the sustainable use of land resources. As a core part of the land, soil plays an important role in the process of land use. This paper tries to study on different land consolidation projects through combining the soil fractal property with nutrient characteristics. It can provide quantitative evaluation index from the aspect of soil physical and chemical properties for Chongqing area and even the whole country. It also has important practical significances to improve soil quality and adopt reasonable measures for the use of land resources.This research selects three different kinds of land consolidation projects in Chongqing, including terracing of sloping fields in Wushan county, shifting soil and fertility betterment in Zhongxian county and homestead reclamation in Jiulongpo district, through field investigation, sampling, indoor experimental analysis of soil physical and chemical properties, calculating soil volume fractal dimension, using SPSS statistic analysis and correlation analysis, to study the fractal dimension of soil particles and nutrient characteristics, and further discusses the fractal characteristics and the correlation of soil grain composition, soil nutrient content and so on. This research also compares and analysis the land consolidation projects through the soil physical properties and chemical properties. The results are as follows:(1) The composition of soil particles in three kinds of land consolidation projects in Chongqing is almost the same, it shows the tendency of silt content ﹥sand content ﹥sand content. The difference of soil particle contents is insignificant.(2) The difference of the fractal dimension values under land consolidation projects varied partly. The fractal dimension value of terracing of sloping fields is between 2.58 and 2.69. The fractal dimension values of shifting soil and fertility betterment is between 2.61 and 2.73. The fractal dimension values of homestead reclamation are between 2.54 and 2.74.(3) The correlations between the soil fractal dimension and the clay content are significantly positive in these three kinds of land consolidation projects. In the terracing of sloping fields, the correlation between the soil fractal dimension and the silt content is negative. In the homestead reclamation project, the correlation between the soil fractal dimension and the silt content is positive. The correlations between the soil fractal dimension and the sand content are all negative in these three kinds of land consolidation projects. The conclusion is the more the soil content of clay, the larger the fractal dimension values is, the more the soil content of sand, the smaller the fractal dimension values is.(4) The soil nutrient content in these three land consolidation projects over all situation from high to low is: cultivate fertility project ﹥ terracing ﹥ homestead reclamation.(5) The trends of soil fractal dimension on the vertical section changes present different characteristics in the different projects. In terracing of sloping fields, the fractal dimension of topsoil is bigger than the subsoil; In cultivate fertility project, the fractal dimension would be bigger with the increase of soil layer depth.(6) This research studies three different types of land consolidation projects in Chongqing. According to correlation analysis results, the correlation of fractal dimension reached to very significant level as compared with the total nitrogen and soil organic matter content. In terracing of sloping fields and homestead reclamation, the correlation of fractal dimension is negative as compared with the total nitrogen and soil organic matter content, and it didn’t reach to significant level with other nutrient contents. In cultivate fertility project, the correlation of fractal dimension is positive as compared with the total nitrogen and soil organic matter content, and it’s negative as compared with the total phosphorus and the total potassium. There are spatial differences of the correlation between fractal characteristics and the soil nutrient.In brief, this paper achieved certain results for the current land consolidation projects in Chongqing and had a comprehensive understanding of taking measures to rational utilization of land resources in the future. There is a very important theoretical and practical significance in this research.
