Selection And Application Of Perennial Plants In Roof Greening In The North Of China

Green roof is one of the effective ways to increase the green area of the city, the city can effectively ease the contradiction between green space and building land, as well as to improve the urban environment and beautify the city, open urban space, enhance the city’s image and so on. Perennial flowers is featured with wide variety, rich colors, and adaptability, simple conservation cultivation, but less applied in the northern region of green roofs. This is the first systematic studies in the northern region of green roofs perennial plant selection and application, the main findings:1.On the basis of a literature study and field survey, combined with the environmental characteristics of the roof in the northern region, green roofs selection principle proposed in perennial plants, choose strong resistance, good viewing, try to use native plants, combined with the effect of part of the landscape good new varieties.2. Based on the selection principle and comprehensive analysis of the ecological characteristics and habits of each plant,110 species (81 genera and 36 families) can be applied to the north roof greening perennial plants. Duchesne indica、Dendranthema indica、 Adonis amurensis、Viola philippica、Epilobium angustifolium、Limonium sinense、Aquilegia yabeana、Trollius macropetalus、Potentilla kleiniana、Trifolium、Oxalis、Hemerocallis、 Sedum should be recommended.3. The configuration principles of green roof plants:the habits of perennial flowers; compliance with biodiversity, ecological adaptability; combining art and science; in line with the regionalism; comply with the architecture; harmony with the surrounding environment; people-oriented.4. According to the configuration principle, the selected perennial plants are applied to the green roofs of northern region; the basic configuration unit includes flower border type, container type, gallery frame type, ground cover type, wall-mounted type, clump planting type. In the green roof design, a combination of these basic unites can be applied according to the actual situation of different positions on the roof.5. The roof garden design was taken as an example for analysis, the selected perennial plants was applied to different locations of this roof garden depending on the configuration principle.
