In this study,“3414” fertilization program were adopted to investigate thephotosynthetic physiology, growth and yield of6a born Xanthoceras sorbifoliaunder differentfertilization treatments to select out the optimum ratio of fertilization. The main results werelisted as follow:1. The result of different fertilization treatments in the field showed that the chlorophyll(Chl) content and net photosynthetic rate (Pn) tended to decrease after increase in alltreatments, the peak values were found in July with the growth of Xanthoceras sorbifolia. The Chl content and Pntended to decrease after increasewith the single amount of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilization level increasing, the peak values were all found in thesecond level of fertilization. The Chl content and Pnwere higher under the treatment ofN2P2K2than the treatment of N0P0K0, which improved35.0%~86.5%and29.9%~51.3%,respectively, and the difference were highly significant (P <0.01).2. Fertilization can promote the growth of newborn branches of Xanthoceras sorbifolia. The length of newborn branches tends to decrease after increase with the single amount ofnitrogen, phosphorus fertilization applied increasing all over the growing period. It increasesin early growing prophase, and decreases after increase in later growing prophase with theamount of potassium applied increasing.Reasonable ratio of NPK can reduce the flower&fruit drop rate very significantly, improve the fruit-setting rate, promote the growth of fruit and seeds, increase yield ofXanthoceras sorbifolia. These traits which are the flower&fruit drop rate, the number offruit and the total mass of seeds on a single tree are the highest on treatment N2P1K2. Thesetraits which are the fruit transverse diameter, seed size, single fruit and seeds mass are thebiggest on treatment N2P1K2. The100-seed weight is maximum of treatment N2P1K2. All thetraits beside the fruit longitudinal diameter tend to decrease after increase with the singleamount of nitrogen, phosphorus fertilization applied increasing. However, the level of NPK isdifferent when they reaches maximum.3. Reasonable ratio of NPK can increase the content of protein, fat, zinc, iron andselenium and decrease the content of copper in Xanthoceras sorbifolia kernel. The low andhigh phosphorus are not conducive to the synthesis of protein, but it can increase the fat content in kernel which helps to improve its oil yielding rate; the total amino acids are lowerin all the measured treatments than the control treatment, but the treatment N2P2K2andN2P2K1can improve the content of essential amino acids. The content of total nitrogen and phosphorus (except for the control treatment) in leavestend to decrease and the content of total potassium tend to decrease-increase-decreasechanges with the passage of time. The content of total nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium inleaves tend to decrease after increase with the single amount of nitrogen, phosphorusfertilization applied increasing. The treatment N2P2K2in leaves has the highest content oftotal nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium.
