The soil nutrients are necessary for the growth of crops, and can be absorbed directly or indirectly. Due to many factors, it exhibits spatial variability. In other words, the soil nutrients will vary with time and place. The study on spatial variability of soil nutrients is helpful to understand the spatial distribution of soil nutrients, thereby providing a certain basis for the soil testing and fertilizer. The soil testing and fertilizer can help reduce the amount of fertilizer, improve the environment, improve fertilizer efficiency, cost savings, improve crop yields, etc.. Therefore, the research on soil testing and fertilizer technology has a very important significance. In this paper, the author studys spatial variability features of soil nutrients and characteristics of soil testing and fertilizer in Xiangyuan County, Shanxi Province based on GIS. The research uses the classical statistical methods and geostatistical methods to sudy spatial variability of soil nutrients, and use the matter-element model to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of soil nutrients of the study area. Then use Denggen Yun model calculate production potential of light and temperature of corns in the study area, providing some basis to determine the yield of the target for fertilization. Finally, use the nutrient balance method to study characteristics of soil testing and fertilizer in the study area. The main results and conclusions are as follows:1. Use the classical statistical methods to study the soil nutrients and conclude that the content of Nitrogen ranges from10to138mg/kg; the content of phosphorus ranges from0.2to25.2mg/kg; the content of potassium ranges from36to358mg/kg; the content of effective copper ranges from0.08to1.617mg/kg; the content of zinc ranges from0.02to2.50mg/kg; and they have a medium variability..2. Use the geostatistics methods to analyze the characteristics of soil nutrients in Xiangyuan County, the results show that among five kinds of soil nutrients in addition to potassium the majority have a strong spatial correlation, effective copper have a moderate spatial correlation, potassium does not have the spatial correlation. Interpolate for the five soil nutrients in ARCGIS and find that the space distribution characteristics of them are different.3. Use the matter-element model to conduct comprehensive evaluation of soil nutrients in Xiangyuan County, and find that the overall soil nutrients in Xiangyuan County belong to the third level(the appropriate level).4. Use Deng Genyun model and Fang Guangdi model to calculate the light and temperature production potential of corns in Xiangyuan County, and find that the photosynthetic production potential of corns in Xiangyuan County is43350kg/hm2, the light and temperature production potential is16500kg/hm2. They have a big difference with the actual production, but still can be used as a basis to determine the target yield.5. Use the nutrient balance method to study Characteristics of soil testing and fertilizer research in Xiangyuan County, and find that the amount of fertilization of every town in Xiangyuan County is different.
