A Research Of Relationship Between Black Bear Breeding Industry And Wildlife Conservation

Wildlife Conservation costs a lot, with the rapid growth of population in the vicinity of protected areas, the cost of protecting habitats will become increasingly higher, the government cost for anti-poaching patrols is a huge expense. However, the most endangered species are located in developing countries (such as Siberian tigers, African elephants), and it is hard to follow the supervision and expenditures. Therefore, many ecological protection scientists and economists began to seek new effective and economical methods. They proposed that artificial breeding could be used as a new protection method to solve the contradiction between the demands for wildlife products and shortages of the field resources.Currently, the wildlife breeding industry is conducive to the wildlife protection endless debate. Supporters argue that (1) wildlife breeding can effectively control the poaching (2) people still have the demands for wildlife products. wildlife breeding can provide the cheap alternatives (3) it can replace unsustainable hunting and deforestation and provide life resources for the relevant people in the region (4) it can promote the habitat protection (5) it is good for the development of hunting (6) it can protect the wildlife in pasture (7) it is in favor of the protection of rare species (8) it offers the possibilities for reintroduction and population recovery. But the opponents argue that:(1) breeding industry will stimulate consumers demands, thus stimulating the illegal poaching (2) the founder populations from wild will threaten wild populations, while providing opportunities for wildlife smuggling and laundering (3) farms are motivated by profit rather than conservation of biological diversity, it has commercialization limitations (4) it goes against the animal welfare (5) it is easy to lead the ecological security crisis, and it is bad for human health (6) it needs to be confirmed that whether it has benefits for the protection or not. Therefore, the relations between breeding industry and wildlife conservation can not be generalized, it also has the relations with related species, national land system, breeding forms breeding and other factors. We should use the dialectical and objective look on the survival problems of breeding industry.Asian black bear is the most widely distributed in China. As the top of China’s four animal medicinal materials, the use of bear bile in traditional Chinese medicine make the black bear has a high commercial value. The black bear breeding industry has developed more than20years in China, it is closely related to the traditional Chinese medicine development. Since’ Gui zhentang listed " event, the public opinions argue with whether we should ban the black beer breeding industry and forbid the black bear trade, the problems about black bear protection are very sharp. To solve the main problems of the black bear protection, this paper, which using frequency analysis, cross analysis, T-test, ANOVA, factor analysis and other methods to solve issues, was based on a survey of the public’s attitudes on black bear protection and breeding industry in Beijing, Changchun and Chengdu. The results showed that the popularity of black bear products in China is not high, the public misunderstand the way of artificial bile, and most people think that the bear bile can be replaced. The Chinese public’s awareness of black bear protection need to be improved, they have low enthusiasm on fighting the illegal wildlife trade and are lack of the management of national wildlife products logo. The public support to carry out wildlife breeding industry, but there are still some misunderstandings on breeding industry.In order to guiding the public to establish a correct understanding on black bear breeding industry, and improve the black bear industry combined with national conditions to make it play an active role in the protection. We suggest that, firstly, the relevant departments should strengthen the monitoring of wild black bear populations, and focus on the human-animal conflict, then control poaching. Secondly, we should further reinforce the black bear farms management, and forbid disqualification enterprises. Thirdly, we also pay high attention to the black bear welfare. Fourthly, we could popularize the identification management of black bear products to safeguard the legitimate markets. Fifth, we could increase the positive publicities of enterprises to restore the truth of black bear breeding. The last, we also pay attention to the knocking publicity of extremism.
